The second edition of the landmark contemporary art exhibition will celebrate the creative talent of artists living and working on the Gold Coast with the works inspired by their personal histories, career experiences and spanning generations in a thought-provoking atmosphere.

Held every three years, the Triennial made its debut in 2021 with Solid Gold: Artists from Paradise marking the first major exhibition at the newly opened HOTA Gallery, and quickly became a must-see cultural event.

“The spectacular HOTA Gallery is the perfect setting for this collection of works from 42 local artists in Here and Now,” Acting Mayor, Donna Gates said.
Our cultural credentials continue to grow, and this exhibition of contemporary art highlights the creativity of talented Gold Coasters.”

The 2024 exhibition will once again shine a spotlight on local artists, as it unveils the depth and dynamism of the Gold Coast creative community by offering a vibrant and diverse showcase of works that reflect the unique energy and stories of this evolving city.

Gallery goers can explore and wonder through seven interconnected spaces within Gallery 1 each featuring a snapshot of works ranging from medium scale installations, video and sculpture to 2D works.

Here and Now will open to the public for free at HOTA Gallery on 28 September and include an exciting lineup of events including Cocktails with Curators, Panel Discussions, bespoke Artist in Conversation dinners, and ArtLab workshops designed to engage visitors of all ages.

Visitors heading into the exhibition for the opening weekend will have the opportunity to attend Q&A talks with the six commissioned artists Jay Jermyn, Kathy Mackey, Larissa Warren, Lyle Duncan, Norton Fredericks and Rebecca Ross, along with free tote bag workshops to channel the inner artists within.

“Here and Now represents a vibrant fusion of artistic innovation and cultural reflection,” HOTA Director Gallery and Visual Arts, Susi Muddiman OAM said. “This exhibition is a testament to the incredible talent within our region, pushing the boundaries of contemporary art while inviting audiences to engage with dynamic, thought-provoking works.”

For visitors looking to linger a little longer, Palette will add a unique flavour to the exhibition, unveiling its 10th exhibition tasting menu curated by Executive Chef, Dayan Hartill-Law, with dishes that echo the themes, colors, and emotions captured by the artists.

Each of the five courses in the innovative menu offers an unforgettable gastronomical journey with inspiration taken from the artists' shared tales of food. A celebration of art and taste on a plate that transpires generations allowing guests to journey through some of the featured artists' childhoods spent on the beach eating seafood, to overgrown mint gardens and comfort food when in their creative zones.
