Monaco invites travellers to go beyond the glittering façade and experience the Principality like a true local during the northern winter months. As the crowds of summer wane and the Mediterranean breeze sets in, this is the perfect time to uncover the authentic spirit of Monaco which transforms into a cozy and culturally rich haven.

Immerse yourself in winter culture

Winter in Monaco is an ideal time to discover the Principality's thriving cultural scene, from world-class performances by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra (OPMC) to breathtaking productions by the Ballets de Monte-Carlo. From October 2024 to June 2025, the new season will be marking two important commemorations intimately connected to Monaco's musical history: the 50th anniversary of the death of Shostakovich, and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ravel.
Do not miss Monaco National Day celebrations on 19 November, including a grand parade and fireworks. The entire population comes together outside the Prince's Palace square to celebrate their Sovereign, the Princely Family, and their rich heritage.
Meanwhile, the
Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival, held at the Opéra Garnier from 20 November to 01 December, will showcase top international jazz talents in a glamorous setting, continuing its tradition of celebrating jazz with performances by leading artists in a historic venue.

Shop like a local for Christmas

Monaco offers a rich shopping experience, from high-end designer boutiques in the Metropole Shopping Monte-Carlo mall to artisanal products like the Chocolaterie de Monaco or “Made in Monaco” liqueurs at La Distillerie de Monaco. Be transported to a fairytale land, as the festive season transforms Monaco into a winter wonderland with magical decorations, glittering illuminations and markets, including the Christmas Village at Port Hercule. The Casino Square dazzles with yuletide chalets, snow globes, and concerts, while majestic Christmas trees adorn the lobbies of iconic hotels.

Savour the flavours of the season

Local cuisine shines during the winter months, as Monaco's dining scene expands with the newly opened Marius, offering Mediterranean cuisine in a modern setting, and the new rooftop gem Amù (meaning love in Monegasque) at Fairmont Monte-Carlo Hotel. Enjoy hearty dishes at restaurants that locals love, such as the renovated Café de Paris or the newly opened Zeffirino and Da Valentino, beloved Italian restaurants known for their authentic dishes. For a more immersive experience, meet the locals at the 140-year-old La Condamine market to sample regional produce and traditional winter delicacies, including Monaco's favourite speciality, the Barbajuan.

Connect with nature in Monaco

Step off the beaten path in Monaco by exploring its natural beauty through the Heritage Tree Trail which highlights Monaco's commitment to preserving nature. Monaco's gardens cover over 20% of its land, and the Heritage Tree Trail offers visitors the chance to discover its stunning flora, including St Martins, Princess Grace, and Japanese Gardens, while learning about the principality's green heritage. Then stroll down the newly renovated Larvotto Beach offering a vibrant seaside experience with eco-friendly facilities, dining, and stunning coastal views.

Explore sustainably

Explore Monaco like a local using soft mobility options, perfect for its compact 2 km² size. Stroll through the city with ease using public elevators and escalators or rent an electric MonaBike. Hybrid buses and electric boats offer eco-friendly travel, all integrated through apps like Monapass for effortless use. These green initiatives allow travellers to reduce their carbon footprint while experiencing Monaco's commitment to sustainability and innovation.

Endless winter adventures

Monaco's central location offers easy access to ski resorts in the nearby French Alps, making it a prime destination for winter sports enthusiasts. After a day on the slopes, return to Monaco for an evening of fine dining and relaxation, blending the thrill of adventure with the comfort of Mediterranean luxury.
