Canada's Open Invitation: Free Outdoor Gallery
From September 20 – 26, 2024, Cabot Square in Canary Wharf will host the installation of a first-of-its-kind pop up outdoor gallery of Canada images by world renowned National Geographic photographers. Residents, commuters and Londoners alike are invited to come along and see the beautiful landscapes and vibrant cultures of Canada represented in photographic form, taking time out of busy London lives for a moment of Canada calm and space. There is no cost to attend.
In 2023, Destination Canada and National Geographic CreativeWorks embarked on a year-long storytelling and photography project which sent three celebrated photographers to Canada on a completely open assignment, to capture the sights, people and moments that touched them at three very different times of year.
The photographers were given no specific direction; instead, they were simply encouraged to travel for an extended period across six different regions of the country, documenting the people and places that set Canada apart. The three featured photographers are:
MATTHIEU PALEY has travelled the world for National Geographic. As a lover of local flavours, responsible food sourcing, adventure and fascinating cultures, Matthieu found everything he was looking for in Québec and The Maritime provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
KILIII YÜYAN illuminates stories from the Arctic and communities connected to land and sea. He has travelled across polar regions working with native cultures, wildlife and underwater environments. Snow-covered Alberta and British Columbia, is where Kiliii found magic, beauty and a sense of connection, leading to a unique set of images, and memories to last a lifetime.
AMI VITALE is considered one of the most influential conservation photographers of her generation. Her work shines a light on the unsung heroes and communities striving to protect and find harmony with our natural world. She found herself captivated by the deep connections and untamed beauty of the diverse landscapes of the Yukon and Northwest Territories.
These images will be on display as part of Destination Canada's campaign to showcase the sense of adventure that Canada offers.
