World Expeditions announces its anticipated 'return to Tibet' with the reintroduction of three classic Tibetan adventures: Lhasa to Kathmandu via Tibet's Everest BC, Everest Kangshung Face and Journey to Mount Kailash. Having pioneered trekking in Tibet in 1981 World Expeditions is now the first Australian company to return to trekking in the region, once again offering spectacular journeys for trekkers and cultural explorers following the three-year hiatus imposed by Covid.

Speaking on the return of these Tibetan adventures, Sue Badyari, CEO of World Expeditions, comments;

“Tibet has been in high demand in terms of enquiry from our travellers, so this is clearly a much anticipated return. We have undertaken reconnaissance on each of our Tibet routes to ascertain current local conditions to ensure a quality experience for our trekking and touring trips after such a long absence. We are now confident that our Tibet trips are well placed to offer the immersive, culturally rich and creative adventure travel experiences we're renowned for in the Himalaya.

"Travel on the roof of the world is incredibly inspiring, yet travellers will encounter high altitude, some long driving days and remote trekking trails. However, with the support of our expert local team, travellers are rewarded with some of the most breathtaking landscapes imaginable and a resilient culture that continues to thrive despite challenges. We have an outstanding Tibetan team, supported by our experienced Nepali leaders, who are incredibly excited about our return to Tibet."

The two treks and one adventure touring cultural journey commence in Chengdu and conclude in Kathmandu to facilitate the smooth issuance of Tibetan permits. World Expeditions is committed to the safety and comfort of its travellers, providing top-quality gear including high-end down jackets, sleeping bags, and personal kit bags. A fully equipped medical kit and Portable Altitude Chamber are carried at all times by expert guides, ensuring trekkers are well prepared for the high altitude environment.

Lhasa to Khatmandu via Tibet's Everest BC
This 13-day cultural journey crosses the Tibetan Plateau, linking the fabled city of Lhasa with the bustling and vibrant Kathmandu. A highlight is the visit to Rongphu Valley, where travellers witness the awe-inspiring view of Mount Everest's north face from the historic base camp used during Mallory's expeditions in the 1920s. Accompanied by Tibetan-speaking guides, trekkers explore the cultural highlights of Lhasa, including the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Norbulingka. Visits to the Drepung and Sera monasteries, Gyantse's Kumbum Chorten, and the Tashilhunpo in Shigatse provide rich insights into Tibetan history.

Everest Kangshung Face
A moderate to challenging 22 day adventure that builds on the Lhasa to Khatmandu via Tibet's Everest BC itinerary, with the addition of a 9-day journey in the Kharta Valley. This exciting trek culminates in the dramatic views of Everest's lesser-seen Kangshung Face. Starting in Lhasa, with ample time to explore the city's cultural treasures, trekkers drive across the Tibetan plateau before embarking on the trek. Passing through the Kharta Valley and absorbing the traditional Tibetan culture, the journey reaches its climax with stunning views of Everest's east face. The trek concludes with a visit to Rongphu Valley before returning to Kathmandu.

Journey to Mount Kailash
This 18 day pilgrimage is an unforgettable cultural journey to the most sacred peak in the Himalaya for Hindus and Buddhists. Trekkers join devout pilgrims at the Saga Dawa Festival and trek around the mountain considered the centre of the universe. This trek includes a week-long journey from Lhasa, through Gyantse and Shigatse, and across the Tibetan plateau. The adventure coincides with the Saga Dawa Festival, where pilgrims gather to celebrate by prostrating around the holy mountain. Following the festival, trekkers embark on the kora—a three-day trek around the sacred mountain—offering breathtaking views of one of the world's most iconic peaks. The journey concludes with a return to Kathmandu via the stunning Langtang region.

These three reintroduced Tibet trips each provide a unique option for exploring the region, catering to those looking to experience Tibet via a challenging trekking experience as well as those seeking to preserve their energy for involvement in cultural activities.
