Martin County Office of Tourism and Marketing

The Martin County Office of Tourism & Marketing was recently honored to win two prestigious Flagler Awards during the 2024 Florida Governor's Conference on Tourism, held last week in Tampa, Florida.

The Discover Martin team won a Henry Award (the top prize) in the “Sustainable Tourism Marketing” category for their Explore Natural Martin ecotourism program and corresponding promotional efforts. Developed in collaboration with Leave No Trace, this award-winning initiative offers a diverse range of guided eco-tours throughout the destination's outdoor areas, combining education, responsible recreation, and unforgettable experiences.

The Tourism Office also earned the Silver Flagler in the “Special Event” category for their impactful Sea Turtle programming. Part of the Explore Natural Martin portfolio, these eco-tours provide visitors with a unique opportunity to witness the wonder of sea turtles nesting along Martin County's pristine beaches. Held during nesting season, these guided walks educate participants about the importance of sea turtle conservation while highlighting Martin County's commitment to preserving its natural environment.

“It is a tremendous honor when our work is recognized by VISIT FLORIDA at the annual Flagler Awards,” said Nerissa Okiye, Tourism Director of Martin County. “These honors underscore our commitment to sustainability and the preservation of our natural treasures for future generations.”

Named for Henry Flagler, the Flagler Awards were established by VISIT FLORIDA in 2000 to recognize outstanding tourism marketing in Florida. The Flagler Awards honor the individuals and organizations that help maintain and improve Florida's position as one of the world's most popular travel destinations.

The 2024 Flagler Awards drew entries from organizations large and small. Working independently, a diverse panel of thirteen judges evaluated the creativity, innovation, production quality, and effectiveness of each entry across 18 categories.

“Florida's tourism industry boasts some of the most talented and creative marketers in the world, so we're thrilled to be recognized alongside the other winners in the 2024 Flagler Awards,” says Ian Centrone, Deputy Tourism Director for Martin County. “Our destination is a very special place, and we could not have achieved these results without the ongoing support of our partners, the Martin County Tourist Development Council, and our local stakeholders.”
