The Chinnery at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong Unveils Refreshed Interiors and Exclusive 'Taste of The Chinnery' Menu"

Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong

Hong Kong, July, 2024The Chinnery, an iconic establishment within Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, is delighted to announce its reopening after a subtle yet elegant interior refresh. A much-loved address of Hong Kong's heritage since 1963, it continues to offer an intimate retreat for those seeking a moment of tranquillity in the bustling city, blending historical charm with timeless sophistication.

Initially designed as a private gentlemen's club, The Chinnery exudes the classic elegance of British colonial style with rich mahogany timber panelling, plush carpets, and luxurious leather furnishings. The bar is named after the esteemed 19th-century British artist George Chinnery, who dedicated much of his career to capturing British colonial scenes from his life in India, Macau, and Hong Kong. His self-portrait, prominently displayed at the entrance, along with his other works throughout the bar, provides a rich historical backdrop to this iconic establishment.

To celebrate its reopening, a special 'Taste of The Chinnery' menu is being introduced, available from now until 30th August 2024. Priced at HKD 1,963 for two (a tribute to the year the hotel opened), this exclusive menu artfully blends beloved classic dishes with exciting new creations. The culinary journey begins with snacks like the classic Lamb Samosa with fresh mint yoghurt and the new Keema Kulcha or Potato Kulcha served with refreshing cucumber yoghurt.

For starters, guests can indulge in the Prime Tenderloin Tartare, a classic prepared with a secret homemade sauce, cage-free egg, capers, gherkin, parsley, and served with white toast, or they can opt for the new Broccoli Velouté, a seasonal delight enriched with crème fraîche and coriander. The main courses offer a delightful mix of timeless favourites and novel additions, including the Classic Shepherd's Pie made with organic lamb shoulder, carrot, celery, onion, and a rich tomato sauce, Indian Tikka Chicken cooked with fresh tomatoes, butter, yoghurt, aromatic spices, and basmati rice, and the new Bengali Mixed Fish Curryfeaturing fresh tomato, onion, ground mustard seeds, and fresh ginger.

Accompanying these dishes are sides of Creamed Potato, Sautéed French Beans, and a selection of Naan Breads (Garlic, Butter, or Plain). The culinary experience is perfectly concluded with desserts such as the classic Chocolate Lava Cake with whisky ice cream and the new Phirni, a traditional Indian dessert with badaam and pista crumble and rose petal ice cream.

The Chinnery remains renowned for its extensive collection of over 120 rare single-malt whiskies from Scotland, Japan, Taiwan, and India. Complementing this is a focus on classic cocktails and whisky pairings, all served by a veteran staff known for their exceptional personalised service.

This beloved bar has been a cornerstone of Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, since its opening, and it has maintained much of its original decor to preserve the essence and historic charm that have drawn generations of patrons. The rich history and timeless appeal serve as a nostalgic reminder of Hong Kong's colonial era, a place where the past and present harmoniously coexist.

In addition to the refurbishment of this historic bar, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong will also be renovating the Clipper Lounge and Café Causette over the summer, ensuring that every corner of the hotel continues to offer the highest standard of luxury and comfort.

The Chinnery is open for lunch from Monday to Friday, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, drinks from Monday to Saturday, 5 pm to 11 pm, and dinner from Monday to Saturday, 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
