New Client for KF COMMS - Introducing Guardswell Farm, Perthshire, Scotland

Guardswell Farm

KF COMMS is delighted to be working with Guardswell Farm, a breathtaking 180 acre farm in Perthshire, Scotland with six self-catering eco-considered and design-led huts, each with a profound connection to nature.

Owned by the Lamotte family, Guardswell Farm is situated on a south facing hillside, between Abernyte and Kinnaird, Perthshire and within 1.5 hours of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. The whole family is involved in Guardswell in some shape or form, but the day-to-day running is now in the hands of the next, younger generation - Anna and her husband Digby. It's their love of learning, food and the farm that makes Guardswell what it is today.

Everything they do on the farm is done with nature in mind, actively regenerating this little slice of the Sidlaws they call home. This means increasing floral, fauna and fungal diversity, drawing down carbon into the soil, building topsoil and keeping it as alive as they can - all whilst creating a strong farm business that is high welfare and creates nutritious food for their local community. They have a flock of Hebridean sheep who provide fleece for spinning (which they can hopefully turn into Guardswell jumpers one day), as well as ethically reared Hebridean hogget meat boxes sold once a year. Along with a lovely herd of rare breed Shetland Cattle, they also have a small herd of Angora goats, who produce the beautiful mohair that they've spun into little balls of 100% pure Scottish Mohair and blended with the Hebridean fleece to make their very own “Guardswell Blend”. Not forgetting the 3,000 apple tree orchard on the farm where Digby makes their homegrown Diggers Cider.

Last month the farm proudly won the RBST "Sustainable Farm Diversification of the Year" for 'the quality and commitment to nature in the diversification of Guardswell Farm into a rural escape destination with events, weddings, regenerative market garden, cider apple orchard and native livestock.'

Each of the six cabins and huts are eco-considered, design-led and locally sourced. From an off-grid hut high on the hill to a five-bedroom modern country farmhouse, each property possesses its own unique character, mesmerising views and a deep connection to nature. New additions are the Big Green Eggs (bbq/smoker/coal oven), Goodland Wood Fired Hot Tubs and as of this year, all bookings have the option to add on a lovely fresh Guardswell Breakfast Basket. This includes a little selection to last the stay of sourdough and homemade preserves, Guardswell granola, eggs from the hens, beautiful ground coffee, Diggers Apple Juice, Scottish yoghurt and a jar of homemade compote. Guests are welcome to explore the farm with their breakfast and enjoy in one of the many unique spaces they have dotted around.

The Pendicle (sleeps two) has one of the best views at Guardswell and has been designed and built with sustainability in mind - from the sheep-wool insulation, the locally grown and milled wood cladding to the homemade soap in the bathroom. This space is the perfect retreat for a couple who fancy getting the wood fire roaring and popping a bottle of Diggers Cider.

The Infield (sleeps two) is an off-grid haven for those who love stargazing, peaceful surroundings and a chance to watch the world go by, with a south-facing glass gable end looking over the beautiful Carse of Gowrie, River Tay and Fife, and a stargazing window positioned perfectly above the mezzanine's superking size bed. This Hut also has the option of a fold-y-out bed for extra guests.

The Kailyard (sleeps two) is a modern take on a shepherd's hut - a portable tiny-house that manages to fit a double bed, wood burning stove and small kitchen within. Outside the Hebridean sheep roam around in true shepherds style.

Guardswell Cottage (sleeps four) sits snugly next to the Steading, with a south-facing panoramic window taking in the insanely beautiful view. The cottage has had both an internal and external face-lift in the last couple of years and is furnished in a very playful, fresh and light way. A wrap-around deck to the front of the Cottage is the perfect spot for a summer evening dinner.

The Cotterhouse (sleeps eight) sits neatly at the bottom of the farm track, with framed views over the Carse of Gowrie and North Fife. Although it looks like a little cottage, inside fits four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living/dining space and a kitchen.

Guardswell Farmhouse (sleeps ten) is the perfect balance between rural living and contemporary features. Bright and fresh with palettes of greys and whites, lovingly worn wooden floors, sheepskin rugs and woollen blankets, stacks of Guardswell firewood and the heart of the house - the cosy red Aga. The Farmhouse is furnished in a simple, modern country and utilitarian fashion with minimal clutter and pieces that the Lamotte's fell in love with. Outside there are views for days and the fresh farm air, table and chairs, a firepit for toasting marshmallows and a Big Green Egg perfect for cooking up a storm for the whole household.

Guardswell Farm is a real rural escape, a chance to immerse in bygone ways and practice slowing down and embracing the natural world. As a digital-free zone, they encourage visitors to completely disengage with technology and take a moment to appreciate the slower things in life. They can plan trips or walks with experts who can lead forages or nature workshops, or arrange a local chef to cook a special Scottish meal for two or ten. For little ones, there's nature treasure hunts, animal tours and feeding, but imaginations can really run wild on the farm with den building, butterfly spotting and playing on the old boat used as a bothy for picnics. Perfect for little explorers.

If guests did wish to venture out, they're just a stones throw from Dundee and Perth, where they can explore the V&A or Perth Museum (opened in March '24). It's also a brilliant “hopping off” point for day trips and hikes, whether that's the East Neuk of Fife, Highland Perthshire, Braemar and the Cairngorms, or up the Angus Coast.Their rural nature means they're not on a bus route, but visitors can travel by train to Perth or Dundee then hop in a taxi. They also offer an “Earth Friendly” discount for those who reach up via foot or pedal.

Prices at Guardswell Farm start from £110pn for a two night minimum stay. To book, please visit the website.
