Look up and you’ll find sea eagles or short-eared owls watching overhead. Then saunter down to the nearby shoreline to look out for seals playing in the water. You might even want to take a refreshing dip yourself!

An island to delight

Benbecula is one of six islands collectively known as Uist, located in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides and can be reached by plane or ferry. It’s known for its abundance of white shell sands and diverse wildlife – a peaceful, special place.

Friendly islanders keep the language of Gaelic alive on Benbecula and lots of Ceilidhs happen that you can join in the summer months. Craftsmanship is also treasured on the island. You can find local art, pottery, hand-carved stone jewellery and two local distilleries all within easy reach of the house.

Out and about

For the adventurous, Benbecula and Uist’s other islands have lots to explore like hiking to hidden lochs and untouched beaches. Hop on a boat tour to spot dolphins and whales or hire bikes and find peaceful trails with expansive vistas.

And when the day is done, come back to relax and cook up a local fish or lobster caught in the very waters you look out on. Or stop off at the pub for a tasty meal and a wee dram (or two!).
