Luxury Lodges of Australia (LLoA) has welcomed Bullo River Station to the collection of luxury lodges and camps offering distinctively Australian, high-end experiences and hospitality across the continent.
Set on some 400,000 acres of privately owned outback country at the convergence of the Bullo and Victoria rivers in the East Kimberley, Bullo River Station is located in the Northern Territory near the Western Australian border.
Bullo River Station offers guests an authentic working cattle station experience that harmoniously balances pastoral, tourism and conservation activities. Guests experience the timeless spirit of an outback welcome, through hospitality and the generous and comfortable surroundings of the property's homestead. 'Bullo', as it's affectionately known, is a real “home in the outback.”
The Station's landscape is carved with gorges and waterfalls, making it one of Australia's most breathtakingly beautiful properties. Surrounded by rugged hills inscribed with Aboriginal rock art, the salt and fresh waters meet to create a diversity of ecosystems. It is home to a stunning variety of local fauna species including kangaroos, wallabies, dingoes, myriad native and migratory birds, fish and the omnipresent crocodiles as well as around 2,000 Brahman-cross cattle.
Twelve generous and comfortable rooms, delicious, wholesome meals and cooling beverages reinvigorate guests after a day exploring the outback and enjoying Bullo's many activities.
Guests explore Bullo with their own guide: visiting secret waterfalls, natural swimming pools and historic boabs, spending the day cruising the Bullo River and dropping a line in for barramundi fishing, bird and wildlife watching, and exploring the Aboriginal rock art on the vast property. And then there is the station life which has its own rhythms, full of dust and excitement. It all makes for an exhilarating stay.
Bullo's ethos is underpinned by the balance between best-practice pastoral work and a commitment to sustainability and conservation. The prime pastoral land is managed with care and respect for the pristine and extraordinary beauty of the outback bushlands. Bullo River Station is home to a groundbreaking collaboration with one of Australia's most experienced conservation organisations, the Australian Wildlife Conservancy, which allows conservation and pastoralism to work hand-in-hand.
Bullo River Station Co-owner, Alexandra Burt, said the remarkable properties in the Luxury Lodges of Australia collection tell a uniquely Australian story that has huge appeal.
“Together, the Luxury Lodges of Australia members represent the pinnacle of the experiential tourism offering in Australia, have exceptional brand reach, and are essential to the way Australian luxury is perceived by international audiences. We deeply admire all of the properties, their character and personality as well as their commitment to excellence, and we feel privileged to join this outstanding cohort,” Ms Burt said.
Bullo River Station Co-owner, Julian Burt, said the team's vision for Bullo River Station was to demonstrate that thriving cattle operations and vibrant ecosystems can coexist.
"By partnering with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy and reshaping our approach to pastoral activities, as well as our luxury tourism operations, we plan to lead by example. We hope to prove that sustainable practices are not only feasible but essential for a resilient future,” Mr Burt said.
Bullo River Station is on Miriwoong and Gajirrawoong country, the Traditional Custodians of the East Kimberley Region. The Miriwoong and Gajirrawoong were the original sustainable farmers and managers of the land, and understanding and integrating this knowledge into Bullo's practices is a long-term aspiration.
Luxury Lodges of Australia Executive Chair, Penny Rafferty, said the addition of Bullo River Station to the collection added to the depth and diversity of its portfolio of experiential luxury.
“The Bullo experience is distinctively Australian: raw yet refined, vast yet intimate, understated yet luxurious by virtue of access to the land and the genuine hospitality of the hosts,” Ms Rafferty said.
“Bullo is the kind of uniquely Australian experience that aligns perfectly with the Luxury Lodges of Australia DNA,” she said.
“The Bullo experiences are a great complement to those at our existing members, Bamurru Plains, El Questro Homestead and True North in the vast Kimberley and Top End regions. Together these remarkable properties offer a compelling reason to plan a discovery of this remote and fascinating part of the Australian continent.”
