In Tasmania, winter is when things get wild, weird and wonderful. A season where nature's wonders inspire creativity and where exploration knows no bounds, This off-season, The Tasman, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart, invites travellers to explore Tasmania's enchanting night sky, alive with vibrant galaxies, the Milky Way, and the ethereal Aurora Australis* that illuminates the sky with magical hues of purple and green glows. Presenting the 'Skygazer' experience, led by local Tasmanian photographer and Aurora chaser Luke O'Brien. Guests may experience the rare opportunity to witness the celestial experience, capturing the brilliance of light amidst darkness.
Tasmania offers Australia's best viewing platform for travellers lucky enough to witness the Aurora Australis, with dramatic landscapes and dark skies free of light pollution. Contingent upon weather conditions, travellers may experience the spectacle of a delicate light show of the Aurora illuminating the night sky.
Available exclusively for guests of The Tasman during winter, visitors will be guided by photographer Luke O'Brien in an intimate photography lesson, revealing the stunning features of the southern night sky. The 'Skygazer' experience includes transportation to prime lookout points identified by local expert O'Brien, where guests may have the opportunity to capture The Aurora - often too subtle for the naked eye, its celestial presence is best viewed through digital lens photography.
A spectacle only visible in the depths of the Tasmanian winter, travellers will be rewarded for bracing the dropping mercury with a hot spiced apple cider and a Waverley Mills buttery soft Merino wool scarf to rug up in.
Centrally located in the heart of the Tasmanian capital, The Tasman layers timeless history with refined, low-fi luxury accommodation. After a night spent beneath the light spectacle amidst the crisp Tasmanian air, guests can retreat back to the warm embrace of a sumptuous bath and crackling fireplace - all accompanied by the soothing embrace of fine whisky.
Comprising three linked unique buildings - Heritage, Art Deco, and a new contemporary designed wing - The Tasman stands at the first Luxury Collection hotel in Australia. Striking a balance between refined luxury and secluded experiences, The Tasman is poised as the most idyllic base for hotel guests looking for thoughtfully curated and immersive adventures that encourage exploration beyond the beaten path.
Guests of The Tasman can book the experience directly through the hotel's Les Clefs d'Or concierge.
