OMO5 Hakodate by Hoshino Resorts will open on July 6, 2024 in Hakodate, the fourth OMO hotel in Hokkaido following properties: OMO7 Asahikawa, OMO5 Otaru and OMO3 Sapporo Susukino.
Designed with the concept “120% Hakodate,” the hotel will continue the city tourism brand's philosophy to encourage deeper exploration of urban culture in cities throughout Japan.
Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Hakodate is blessed with fresh seafood throughout the year. It also boasts a long history having opened in the late Edo period and becoming Japan's first international trading port. Today, many of the historical streets and buildings remain as they were, evoking a sense of time gone by.
Just a five-minute walk from Hakodate Station facing the historic entertainment district, OMO5 Hakodate will serve as base to explore the lesser-known areas in addition to the extensive local attractions of this charming city.
OMO Base is a communal space that seamlessly connects the hotel with the city. It includes the OMO Cafe & Bar and “Go-KINJO,” a service unique to the OMO brand that enables guests to immerse themselves in the city through new discoveries and encounters, all within walking distance.
There are two parts of the service: “Go-KINJO Activities” which are organised in collaboration with the community by staff who act as local guides known as OMO Rangers and “Go-KINJO Map,” a curated map of recommendations by hotel staff who love the neighbourhood.
One such Go-KINJO activity is a specialised tour through the Hakodate Open Market, a morning market which locals have cherished for more than 70 years. The OMO Ranger will guide guests through the market, asking each of the stores for their recommended fish of the day. This is an opportunity for guests to taste freshly prepared seafood and shop confidently while comparing the offerings of different stores.
Seafood lovers will enjoy the luxurious breakfast buffet on offer at OMO Dining which serves a variety of nutrient-rich seafood dishes designed to energise you for a day of exploring the city.
After a long day on your feet, there's no better way to recuperate than at the large communal bath exclusive to guests featuring a natural hot spring that flows directly from the source. The water quality is classified as a strong saline spring with sodium chloride (pH 6.8). After bathing, guests can enjoy a drink at the OMO Base which has an outdoor terrace designed with the ambiance of Hakodate's sea and famous lights from the squid fishing boats.
The “Hakodate Guruguru Free Bus” is a complimentary bus service exclusive to guests staying at OMO5 Hakodate. It facilitates smooth travel and sightseeing around the city's most famous attractions. Starting from OMO5 Hakodate, the bus makes its rounds approximately every hour, connecting key locations such as the Hakodate Open Market, the Bay Area, Motomachi Park, the Mount Hakodate Ropeway and Fort Goryokaku.
The hotel offers 12 types of rooms across 245 rooms in total. All rooms are designed for relaxation, where guests can take off their shoes and unwind. The concept rooms, created to blend into the city of Hakodate, feature wall art of the ropeway ascending Mount Hakodate and a headboard depicting the night view of Hakodate.
Inspired by the city's character, rooms are furnished with sea-coloured sofas, cushions that evoke the warm streetlights of Hakodate, and brick-patterned carpets, offering the feel of strolling through the city while staying in.
The “OMO House” has a kitchen that allows guests to enjoy local gourmet food from the comfort of their own room which is recommended for families, large groups, and long-term stays.
