SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CALIFORNIA – Five Santa Cruz area properties have completed renovation projects and are ready to welcome visitors to the region. In total, ten hotels have been renovated or built within the span of about a year, each one with distinct offerings. In a destination like Santa Cruz County that offers diverse and unique attractions and activities, a suite of lodging properties that appeal to a wide range of visitors only adds to the many options of this uncommon beach town on California’s central coast.
Launched in summer 2023, the Marea Sol, a three-story, Spanish-style colonial property in the center of Beach Street in Santa Cruz debuted. This brand-new construction project replaces the Coastview Inn, adjacent to the La Bahia Hotel project and includes 38 rooms, 11 two-room suites, retail space on the ground floor, flexible meeting space for smaller groups, a pool deck, and a separate rooftop deck.
More recently, near downtown Santa Cruz, Hotel Paradox, Autograph Collection completed a major renovation of its public spaces. Designers maximized the footprint of its onsite restaurant by expanding the seating area, employing glass where possible and extending the ceiling, designing a seamless transition from indoors to outside. Santa Cruz native Chef Stefan Shatto is combining his ag-based culinary roots with the culture of community that is intrinsic to the region to reimagine the menu offerings at the eatery. Forest-themed touches and modern furnishings enhance the lobby-meets-lounge common area, bringing nature-inspired touches to the indoor space.
Additionally this year, Santa Cruz’s Best Western Plus All Suites Inn completed a full-property renovation of its guestrooms and suites and public areas, increasing their inventory to 80 rooms as a result. The former Oceana Inn renovated and reopened as Sea Side Inn & Suites. On Santa Cruz’s Ocean Street thoroughfare, the Ocean Lodge went through a complete renovation and reopened as Motel 6 Santa Cruz.
In 2022 the county saw many properties reopening following major renovations and construction efforts. In Aptos, the Seacliff Inn reopened as a Tapestry Collection by Hilton following a redesign, renovation and rebranding process.
The La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Santa Cruz debuted in the beach area, featuring 60 rooms and just steps from Main Beach, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, the wharf and other attractions.
In Scotts Valley, the newly renovated Hilton Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley unveiled 178 guest rooms featuring balconies, patios, suites. The onsite Stonehouse Bar & Grill also underwent a glow-up, and still offers creative California cuisine, brews, and unique cocktails.
The 151-room Courtyard by Marriott Santa Cruz also opened in 2022, after brand new construction with views of the ocean, San Lorenzo River, and the Santa Cruz Mountains. An onsite restaurant, The Bistro is open for breakfast and dinner and features a full bar with a total capacity of 130 guests. An outdoor pool, fire pits, and the onsite Spa Nalini offering a variety of treatments round out the amenities.
The Chaminade Resort & Spa debuted the final renovation in a series of upgrades with their pool area, elevating the guest experience. The resort added an additional pool, enhanced cabanas, a customized food truck called The Sandbox, and outdoor firepits.
