The resurgence of the family road trip in recent years has taken on a new dimension, especially when coupled with SeaLink Marine & Tourism adventures. As the foremost marine transport and tourism operator in Australia, we offer seamless access to magnificent Australian island destinations, inviting travellers to embark on self-drive experiences from the familiarity of their own vehicle. Road tripping has never looked this good.
According to a Budget Direct Survey of 764 Australians over 18 years of age, more than 88 percent of Australian respondents have taken a road trip before[1], noting popular destination trips including the Great Barrier Reef, Great Ocean Road and Tasmania[2] -- all offering gateways to other idyllic locations accessible by SeaLink ferries.
With a variety of vessels that can transport vehicles, including cars, vans and caravans, to some of Australia's most idyllic island locations along these routes, SeaLink seamlessly connects visitors to the renowned Kangaroo Island in South Australia, K'gari (Fraser Island), North Stradbroke Island and Magnetic Island in Queensland, and Bruny Island in Tasmania.
Donna Gauci, CEO of SeaLink Marine & Tourism, explains, "Our vessels offer families a way to explore some of the most wonderful islands of Australia all from the comfort of their own vehicles.
“Traveling with your vehicle means no car rental hassles or additional expenses for baby seats for younger families, resulting in significant savings. It also simplifies the ordeal of packing and manoeuvring everything through airports with kids in tow.
"We take pride in connecting families with experiences in some of Australia's most iconic destinations and communities. We see the many parents and their kids with immense excitement in their eyes as they drive their car onboard, which provides convenience and flexibility which we know is important. Families can set their own schedules, get off the beaten track to uncover hidden gems, and embark on adventures without limitations, all the while planning the day around nap schedules,” she added.
The Budget Direct Survey also showed that more than one in four participants were joined by their child or children and this rises to more than 40 percent of participants aged 35-54. Survey results also showed that participants who had previously travelled on a road trip with their kids were very excited to go on another road trip with the family.[3]
