SLOW MOTION WILD SPA POPS UP AT ISLE OF WIGHT’S TAPNELL FARM

Calling all sauna lovers!

Warm up this winter with Camp Bestival supremo Rob da Bank’s first Winter Warmer Slow Motion Wild Spa popping up at Tapnell Farm on the Isle of Wight this November and December – bringing a taste of Finland to the countryside.

Boasting two saunas (one gifted by Finland to the Isle of Wight and making its debut at this event), lake views, fire pit, festive pine body scrub, cold tub, showers, changing area and free parking - it’s the perfect excuse to escape for some ‘me’ time with friends and family.

Rob da Bank says:

‘Finland has just won Happiest Country of the Year for the 6th year running… it’s no coincidence that a country that boasts more saunas than population is very happy. Saunas are incredibly beneficial for your physical and mental health and new studies are showing incredible new science at work all the time. I can’t wait to take both saunas to Tapnell this winter!’

Sessions cost £15 per person per hour for a communal sauna session, or £120 for a private group of up to 10 people.  Add-on experiences ranging from massage to sound healing, cacao ceremonies and meditation, are also available.

Winter Warmer Slow Motion Wild Spa will be at Tapnell Farm the last weekend in November (25 & 26), weekends in December (2 & 3, 8 & 9) and Christmas week (16 – 23), from 9am – 4pm.

The story behind the new Sauna from Finland…

In an extreme act of generosity, the Finnish Institute has donated a beautiful sauna to the Isle of Wight.

Islander, Rob da Bank has an idea to place a sauna on each ‘corner’ of the Isle of Wight and create a Sauna Isle. Rob was put in touch with the Finnish Institute through the Finnish Embassy and jokingly asked if they had a spare one. The surprising reply was that they did indeed after a competition had run to design a sauna with a famous Finnish architect. Rob then asked if they’d be willing to donate it and a deal was done.

The new sauna joins Rob’s existing Slow Motion Sauna which has run all summer and autumn at Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight and been hugely popular with both locals and visitors.

  • The Finnish Sauna – background

The renowned Finnish architect Sami Rintala along with architectural students and graduates, led by Principal Lecturer Dr David Scott, from the prestigious School of Architecture + Cities at the University of Westminster built this one-of-a-kind sauna in June 2022.

Through its construction, a new generation of architectural voices explored how contemporary architecture can draw from historical and sustainable building methods. The sauna was built using UPM timber from Finland and the heating system will be provided by the Finnish company Harvia.

The Finnish Sauna was generously funded and donated to the People of The Isle of Wight by the Finnish Institute in the UK and Ireland.
