The countdown begins as Singapore’s Run For Hope 2023 gears up to celebrate 30 years of the longest-running event for cancer awareness and research! Taking place on 17 December 2023 at Event Square @ Marina Bay, Run For Hope 2023 marks a milestone in rallying the community to support cancer research and honouring those affected by the pervasive disease. Gracing this year’s event as the Guest-of-Honour is Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Social and Family Development and Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.
30 Years of Impact: The Longest-Running Cancer Event in Singapore
Organised annually by Four Seasons Hotel Singapore since 1993, in partnership with the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) since 2008, Run For Hope continues to be the largest running event in support of cancer research in Singapore.
“It has been a huge privilege to be able to support this meaningful cause over the past three decades and we are thankful to everyone who has been with us on this journey,” said Peter Draminksy, Regional Vice President and General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel. “Cancer research has resulted in a higher chance of survival and our contributions today give hope for a cancer-free tomorrow. We hope to motivate more people to support life-saving cancer research at NCCS so we can continue to bring hope to those living with cancer.”
According to the Singapore Cancer Registry’s 2021 report, an average of 16,800 individuals were diagnosed with cancer each year between 2017 to 2021.1 Despite significant advances in cancer research, much more can be done to further improve cancer care. Run For Hope serves as a platform to raise awareness and garner support for critical cancer research conducted by dedicated scientists at the NCCS. The event stands as a beacon of hope, offering solace and encouragement to individuals impacted by this disease. In 2022, funds raised by Run For Hope participants reached a cumulative total of more than SGD$1.8M for cancer research, with a goal to raise more this year.
“We are excited to announce Run For Hope 2023, the latest event of an impactful 30-year movement, is aimed at raising awareness of the challenges faced by those battling cancer," said Prof William Hwang, Chief Executive Officer, NCCS. “More than just a run, Run For Hope uplifts our community by bringing everyone together for a fun, healthy activity that promotes awareness for cancer research and patient support programmes.”
Uniting Hearts, One Step at a Time
This year’s edition of Run For Hope includes race categories with distances of 3km and 10km along the scenic route overlooking Singapore’s iconic skyline. Continuing its tradition as a non-competitive recreational run, the event warmly welcomes individuals of all ages and all walks of life to come together and help foster a sense of unity for the community.
