Kelling Heath Holiday Park

Blue Sky Leisure's Kelling Heath Holiday Park and Woodhill Park in North Norfolk are proud to have been awarded three David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature Awards.

The awards for “Super Signage” and “Home Sweet Home” recognise Kelling Heath's commitment to supporting and conserving their unique natural environments, alongside a 'Special Species' award for Woodhill Park.

Managed by the British Holiday & Home Parks Association, The Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature reimagines The David Bellamy Conservation Award Scheme which has helped holiday parks make greener choices for over 25 years, now focusing 100% on wildlife conservation.

In the last 18-months, the team behind Kelling Heath and Woodhill Park took on three challenges to be considered for the awards.

Firstly, the team provided new environmental information and interpretation signs at Kelling Heath to help guests understand the wildlife and environments found on Park.

Secondly, Kelling Heath's Countryside Team have installed over 45 wildlife boxes. These include nesting boxes, bat boxes and a new home for the Park's resident Red Squirrel breeding programme. And at Woodhill Park the Special Species has helped highlight the Skylark bird.

Blue Sky Leisure is proud to have been part of the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature Award scheme since it started in 1997.

Taking the pledge demonstrates Blue Sky Leisure's commitments to conserve the natural environments that surrounds its holiday parks. Across Kelling Heath and Woodhill Park, the teams are committed to improving existing habitats for wildlife, creating new wildlife habitats, and to expertly managing their green spaces in as environmentally friendly a way as possible.

Through the experiences offered across both Parks, the teams aim to involve everyone in wildlife conservation during their stays, also working with the wider community to uphold this ethos of giving back to nature.

About Kelling Heath Holiday Park

Set amongst 300 acres of woodland and rare open heathland in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Kelling Heath is also very close to the North Norfolk coastline at Weybourne.

Kelling Heath is unique amongst the holiday parks of Britain with its own Countryside Team dedicated to caring for its special natural environment, offering related activities for guests to enjoy.

Alongside light pollution and sound management, all new build and refurbishment programmes host a range of environmentally friendly initiatives whilst other projects are planned with sustainability in mind.

Kelling Heath is home to both woodland and heathland environments, making it the perfect habitat for the rare Silver-studded Blue Butterfly, reintroduced in 2001 having been extinct since the 1970's. Management is carried out each year to improve the area for the butterflies and other heathland wildlife resulting in an increase in the numbers of Silver-studded Blues on the heath.

In 2013, 562 silver studded blue butterflies were recorded on Kelling Heath compared to 162 recorded on the same day in 2012.

The Park also features a high quality habitat for bats with the Park home to species including Barbastelle, Brown long-eared, Common pipistrelle bats among others.

Kelling Heath is blessed with a high-quality habitat that the park protects and enhances which benefits guests and the local wildlife. Kelling Heath is proud to be home to conservation projects for red squirrels and is home to an established bat population.

Kelling Heath is dedicated to the protection and sound management of the wider environment in East Anglia. All new build and refurbishment plans carried out include environmentally friendly initiatives and are planned with sustainability in mind.
