When Banyan Tree launched its Spa in Phuket, Thailand in 1994, it pioneered the tropical garden spa concept with time-honoured Asian therapies and practices. Since then, the Group's focus remains steadfast through its spa and wellbeing offerings built on eight proprietary wellbeing pillars: Rest, Nourishment, Movement, Mindfulness, Groundedness, Growth, Connection, and Practice.
At Banyan Tree Spa, guests can step into a sanctuary of the senses, a place for physical and mental renewal. The spa focuses on a non-clinical and holistic approach based on traditional Asian healing remedies and the use of natural herbs and spices. Some of the enduring well-loved treatments include the classic Balinese, a medium to strong massage using firm, rhythmic strokes to ease muscle tension and uplift the sense; and signatures such as the Royal Banyan, featuring a warm herbal pouch and a blend of Eastern and Western massage techniques to improve circulation; and Master Therapist Experience, a specially tailored treatment to restore energy.
Banyan Tree Spa continues to innovate by expanding its range of offers to address modern day issues such as sleep deprivation, tension and fatigue, and digital stress. New purposeful treatments including Restorative Detox, Mobility Stretch, Urban Relief and Sleep Essentials are progressively rolled out this year, as well as weightless therapies that combine gentle flotation, stretching and massage with calming sound therapy to release tension and improve functional movements.
“As travellers increasingly seek out purposeful and healthful experiences, we stay cognizant of our mission to help others live well through our spa and wellbeing products and services. We believe that wellbeing is a lifelong journey that is non-linear and interconnected to self, others, and nature. Consequently, we take a holistic approach to our spa and wellbeing experiences to reflect this philosophy. Our treatments and therapies are evidence-based, rooted in traditional wisdom, and harness the botanical goodness of nature,” says Mrs. Kim Weller, Head of Spa and Wellbeing Operations and Academy, Banyan Tree Spa and Resort (Thailand).
All therapists are trained and certified in the Banyan Tree Spa & Wellbeing Academy in Phuket. In addition, there are two local training centres in Bintan, Indonesia and Shanghai, China. Each therapist undergoes over 650 hours of theoretical and practical training, which includes human anatomy pressure points, traditional and modern spa techniques, ecotherapy, nutrition guidance, and relevant fields of study. Resident experts at the Academy include practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, Thai herbal medicine, naturopathy, meditation, sports medicine, and physiotherapy.
As a testament to service excellence and product innovation, Banyan Tree Spa has earned over 700 awards and accolades from reputable publications and industry groups, the most recent of which is being inducted into TTG Travel Awards' Hall of Fame for winning Best Spa Operator for 10 consecutive years.
By drawing on evolving massage techniques and modern health concerns, Banyan Tree Spa provides authentic, impactful, and accessible treatments that heal, nourish, and renew mind and body. With a global footprint of 33 Spas located at Banyan Tree resorts as well as at standalone locations, Banyan Tree Spa is well positioned to address an increasing need to live a well-balanced life.
