Great Walks of Australia

Hiking the UNESCO World Heritage listed Lord Howe Island is a bucket list experience for many Australians, with spring being the perfect time to do so, as Seven Peaks Walk – one of the Great Walks of Australia - offers guests a free night stay at Pinetrees Lodge including meals at Australia's best hotel.

Nature and adventure lovers who book the highly coveted Seven Peaks Walk for any departure between September to November 2023 will receive an extra night's stay at Pinetrees Lodge, the exclusive accommodation provider on the walk, which has just won TripAdvisor's No.1 Hotel in Australia for a fourth time (receiving the same accolade in 2017, 2018, 2020).

Famed for its gourmet 'dining and wining' experience, friendly, personalised service, and stunning beachfront location, in 2020, the hotel also became Australia's first-ever certified carbon neutral hotel through the Australian Government's Climate Action Program, investing $5million in renovations and achieving the industry leading title.

Luke Hanson, Pinetrees Lodge director said it's an amazing honour to again be awarded the No.1 Hotel in Australia, with spring being the ideal time for guests to enjoy the Seven Peaks Walk experience.

“Crisp mornings, cool evenings, and daytime temperatures of around 20 degrees makes for comfortable hiking days, plus it's the perfect time to see the chicks of many of our rare seabirds, before they depart for summer,” Mr Hanson said.

“I think one of the main reasons roughly seventy per cent of our guests return to Pinetrees Lodge are some of our 'don't haves' like mobile/wifi coverage or locks on our doors - as it allows them to disconnect from the demands and distractions of day-to-day life and reconnect with each other.”

Prior to working as a hotelier, Mr Hanson trained as an ecologist, working for the Australian Government and United Nations on a range of sustainability issues.

“With my background, I wanted to demonstrate that small businesses can make a real difference by allocating a portion of their annual profit into effective sustainable practices, Mr Hanson said.

“We're now certified carbon neutral and have two hectares of young Sallywood Swamp Forest to nurture and protect.

“We've also installed state-of-art wastewater systems, greenwaste recycling through worm farms and compost, and a large organic market garden to reduce our food miles.”

Liz O'Rourke, Executive Officer at Great Walks of Australia, said when guests hike the Seven Peaks Walk on Lord Howe Island, they're getting an all-round impressive experience from start to finish.

“Seven Peaks Walk allows hikers to step out of their busy lives to a place where the pace is relaxed, the nature is sublime, the adventure is high, the food and wine is superb and your accommodation is light on the planet, all thanks to Pinetree Lodge,” Ms O'Rourke said.

“With a free night stay and meals on offer at Australia's best hotel on offer during spring, there's never been a better time to experience the Seven Peaks Walk on spectacular Lord Howe Island.”
