Westport, Calif. (July 5, 2023) – The Inn at Newport Ranch, a luxury resort located on California's Mendocino Coast, is pleased to announce that reservations are open for its annual winter foraging experience, Forage for Incredible Edibles ($900). Led by experienced mushroom foragers, the package can be reserved now for dates this winter, beginning as early as November and extending into February, depending on weather conditions.
“Foraging is a great way to connect with nature and learn about the Mendocino Coast's unique ecosystems,” said Blair Foster, General Manager. “Our foraging package offers guests of the inn an intimate and fully-immersive educational experience followed by a bespoke meal that incorporates the day's bounty.”
Forage for Incredible Edibles takes place on the ranch's 2,200 acre property, which encompasses seven distinct microclimates. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the ranch's forests, meadows, and coastline with an experienced guide in search of a variety of mushrooms.
The Forage for Incredible Edibles is an add-on package that is priced for two guests and includes the following (please note that overnight accommodations are priced separately*):
- A four-hour educational utility vehicle (UTV) excursion of the ranch that includes scavenging for edible mushrooms.
- A picnic lunch served fireside with wine and tea.
- A mushroom-themed dinner for two at the ranch prepared by chef Patrick Meany.
- One inoculated mushroom log to take home.
* Foraging package add-in is subject to service charge and taxes and dependent on favorable weather conditions. Expected start date is early November 2023 through February 29, 2024. Two-night minimum stay. Black-out dates apply. Please note that accommodations are not included in package price.
Chef Patrick Meany offers elevated ranch cuisine served exclusively to in-house guests. He uses ingredients grown and foraged on the property and works with the best local farmers and fishermen to highlight the bounty of Mendocino County. With local and foraged ingredients, the daily menu reflects the North Coast region at any moment in time, with items like dry-aged ranch Beef cooked over Cypress Wood, house-made kombucha flavored with Douglas fir needles and wild Newport honey, and baked goods flecked with ranch-grown nasturtium and marigold.
Meany has a resume of impeccable pedigree, most recently coming from a three-year tenure at Michelin-starred Harbor House in Elk, California. Before that, he owned Stone and Ember in the Anderson Valley, where he cooked over a live fire. His resume also includes positions with Thomas Keller's Michelin-starred kitchens, Per Se and Bouchon.
