ÀNI Private Resorts

From its inception, the brand's ethos has been to create a harmonious relationship with each destination, both from an ecological and anthropological perspective. Principles and practices that bolster the welfare of the people – employees, suppliers, and guests – and the habitats that ÀNI operates in have been embedded in the brand's DNA since the opening of its first resort in 2010.

Basics like removing all plastics, implementing waste management processes, providing guests with bamboo straws, and encouraging them to reuse their sheets and towels, set the foundation for sustainable operations that are under constant assessment. The brand is continually searching for ways to improve its sustainability offering.

Recent additions include the development of an onsite vegetable garden at ÀNI Sri Lanka, and the implementation of a water-filtration system at ÀNI Thailand; a successful project that is currently being replicated across the three other properties.

All ÀNI resorts aim to limit importing food ingredients, instead shopping locally, sourcing fresh seafood nearby, and working with local suppliers where possible. By supporting local providers, such as fishermen, the brand can help achieve progress for local families and create work opportunities for the local community.

This drive to aid local communities is the cornerstone of each ÀNI resort. Everything they do in-house is focused on the community: from hiring local staff to engaging with neighbouring communities to create unique cultural experiences for guests. For example, ÀNI Thailand invites guests to visit a local rubber plantation and experience the local fish nursery. The resort also hires local side cars and drivers for trips around the island and works with long tail boat drivers.

ÀNI Thailand proudly supports a local children's charity, sponsors local youth activities, and works closely with the Red Cross Phang Nga chapter. The resort is involved with the local cultural charity, Hornbill Association, which encourages the building of nests across the island – including one on the property's grounds - for Hornbills to breed. They are also in the process of building a learning centre, which will include three computer labs and a language room, for the local school for 12 - 18-year-olds. It is slated for opening in December 2023.

Meanwhile, in Sri Lanka, the resort exclusively works with local tuk tuk drivers; and has a relationship with a local family to create an authentic Auyreveda lunch experience in their family colonial home, followed by a tour of local temples.

Annually ÀNI Sri Lanka distributes school bags for two preschools in nearby villages; provides support for the village temple and its cultural activities; supports the village youth society's annual sports festival; and collaborates with the coastal conservation department to organise regular beach cleaning activities.

ÀNI is also building another learning centre in the local village, this time for young children aged four to 12, which will include a computer room, and a library/reading room. It will be equipped with separate boys' and girls' bathrooms, as there is limited sanitation at the local school.

ÀNI Dominican Republic works with a local university whose students visit the resort and perform a traditional folk law dance. Donations made to them on behalf of ÀNI and its guests go back into paying for their education. The resort also works with local fisherman, using their deep-sea fishing trawlers and small leisure boats for guest experiences.

Even with all this positive social impact under its belt, where the ÀNI brand really shines is its own philanthropic arm, ÀNI Art Academies. A non-profit organisation, the ÀNI Art Academies' program provides an intensive, multi-year art skills education to aspiring artists at no personal cost. Utilising the highly successful training system developed by artist Anthony J. Waichulis, the ÀNI Art Academies' Program is designed to promote creative freedom through deliberate practice and discipline.
