Introducing Cartology Travel

Cartology Travel

May 2023…/ Cartology Travel, the family-owned bespoke luxury travel agency founded by legendary hotelier Susan Huxter, her son Justin Huxter, and Justin's wife, Kathy Boate, has been highly praised within the industry for its unstoppable creativity, achievements and resilience.

Justin recently gained acclaim being named as one of the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler (USA) Top Travel Specialists for 2023 and also won Luxury Travel Designer of the Year 2023 at TTG Luxury's Travel Awards. His wife and Cartology CEO Kathy was Highly Commended in the same awards in 2020.

Offering the best truly bespoke luxury service in the business the experienced team, led by the dynamic mother/son duo and talented linguist Kathy, are able to leverage their access, insight and extensive contacts to create a VIP service for their discerning travellers.

A Cartology Travel experience can be as diverse as a private tropical island for a milestone celebration, an exclusive wine tasting on a South African vineyard that's not open to the public, a day out foraging with an award winning chef, or perhaps after hours private access to the Sphinx in Cairo.  The team can take care of everything from once in a lifetime blow out trips, to city breaks in well known destinations, but with tailor made itineraries & experiences designed by expert travel advisers.

Everyone on the team, including their experienced independent luxury advisers (based in the UK, Spain, South Africa, USA and Uruguay), focuses on getting to know each client personally to curate every individual experience to their needs. No itinerary is ever used twice. Cartology Travel designers are internationally recognised as amongst the crème de la crème of the industry.

Providing unique experiences across the globe and access that others can't, Cartology Travel has preferred partner status with the best luxury hotel brands in the world.

Much of Cartology Travel's exclusive access to locations and experiences has been gained from co-founder Susan Huxter and her unrivalled black book of contacts in the hospitality industry globally. Having attended École Hôtelière de Lausanne, Susan went on to open the award-winning luxury boutique hotel Le Quartier Français in South Africa, which included world-renowned restaurant The Tasting Room, and was responsible for putting Franschhoek on the modern day traveller's map.

Following in her footsteps with his recent award from Condé Nast Traveler and Luxury Travel Designer of the Year is Justin, who is passionate about the need to consider the wider reaching effects of the travel industry, with the team working tirelessly to create sustainable trips and the company being one of the first members of The Conscious Travel Foundation.

Trilinguist CEO Kathy is also unwavering in her mission to ensure the company encourages sustainable travel at every turn. Having grown up in Canada and now based in London, Kathy has visited every country in Western, Northern and Central Europe (bar Andorra) and is keen to offer future generations the opportunity to do the same.

For those seeking travel inspiration and coming to Cartology Travel with an open mind, the team has a wealth of knowledge about where to go in the world throughout the year.

Avoid the crowds and be alternative – here are Cartology Travel's top five destination switches to discover for 2023:

Zambia - an alternative to Botswana

Still relatively unknown in terms of safari but it offers incredible wildlife viewing, lots of opportunities for walking safaris, with a great selection of intimate luxury game lodges.

The Dolomites - an alternative to Tuscany

A much less visited region of Italy that offers an incredible backdrop to explore with pristine nature, delicious food, amazing wines and lovely people.

Vietnam - an alternative to Bali

Incredible beaches, luxury hotels, a varied and deep history, fantastic landscapes and of course mouth-watering food. There is still plenty to be discovered in Vietnam.

Ecuador - an alternative to Peru

Known mainly for being the access point to the Galapagos, Ecuador is a fantastic destination in its own right. It has cloud forests, Amazon jungle, lovely beaches and plenty of adventure activities.

Madagascar - An alternative to Seychelles

An island paradise with gorgeous blue waters, lush jungle, incredible landscapes and plenty of endemic wildlife, including of course the lemurs. There are some lovely boutique hotels to discover, and air access has improved in recent times.

About Cartology Travel

The Cartology Travel story starts with co-founder Susan Huxter. After attending École Hôtelière de Lausanne and working in a number of hotels along the way, Susan moved to a sleepy town in the winelands of South Africa called Franschhoek. She then started building what would become an award-winning boutique hotel – Le Quartier Français - and world-renowned restaurant – The Tasting Room. Susan is credited with single handedly putting Franschhoek on the tourist map, and no one knows more about what luxury travellers need and want than Susan – her insight allows Cartology Travel to craft truly special trips.

Having grown up in the hospitality industry, Susan's son Justin decided to leave his marketing role and co-found Cartology Travel after identifying a space in the market for a personalised, luxurious offering. He has since become the company's resident safari and Africa expert. With Justin's wife Kathy Boate as CEO, Cartology really does offer an unparalleled family feel. Having spent 12 years in Financial Services in London, Kathy saw how much fun her husband Justin was having in travel, so made the decision to leave the investment banking world behind. She brings a sense of process to the proceedings, in her role as CEO of Cartology Travel.

With their global team of luxury travel designers, they use their knowledge and expertise to elevate client travel experiences. Clients will feel like a local whilst travelling in the ultimate comfort and security to some of the world's most exciting destinations.

Fuelled by glowing word-of-mouth referrals and with Susan as a roving global ambassador to help open doors and forge supplier relationships around the world, Cartology has grown internationally with an expanding team in an increasing number of locations.
