28 March 2022: A quintessentially Port Douglas restaurant, Lagoon House Restaurant, is making its home within Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas as it opens for breakfast, lunch and dinner service on March 28th 2023.

Embodying the laidback nature of the region and inspired by its tropical surrounds, Lagoon House Restaurant is nestled between the resort's sparkling blue lagoons, sheltered by swaying palms and graced with a cooling ocean breeze from Four Mile Beach just metres away.

As locals and travellers stroll along the pristine stretches of Four Mile Beach right on the restaurant's doorstep, they will be intrigued to see a golden coconut, a nod to the native produce of the region, perched upon the entrance to the pathway leading up to Lagoon House Restaurant.

The menu heroes the very best local produce with a focus on share style dishes that encourage guests to experience the joy of connecting through communal dining.

Diners can experience Lagoon House Restaurant as an open air venue, with outdoor tables perfect for small groups and couples enveloped by shade under coastal style umbrellas to shelter from the tropical sun.

An open kitchen acts as the focal point of the restaurant – giving diners the opportunity to watch the talented chefs in action as they prepare and plate up the delicious meals. A countertop dining space right beside the open kitchen is perfect for diners who want a seat close to the action to engage closely with the culinary team.

Celebrating a communal spirit, a Long Table can be booked in the evenings by large groups or by individual travellers who want to experience the joys of connection over a shared meal. Designed to be a place where like-minded guests and locals can unite, the Long Table highlights Sheraton's position as the world's gathering place. Perfect for sharing, the 'Feed Me' menu for tables of 6 or more includes a chef's selection of delicacies from across the menu.

The dining experience at Lagoon House Restaurant is one shared and celebrated by all diners. A Paiste Gong with the Tai Loi symbol signals that 'happiness has arrived' – sounding throughout the venue each time happiness is about to arrive on a plate before a guest. A powerful transformational and therapeutic instrument with deep heritage in use for ritual, prayer, ceremony and meditation since the bronze age, when the Lagoon House Restaurant Gong sounds, with a gentle hum it echoes feelings of connectedness between local and global guests and the resort team curating their dining experience.

“Lagoon House Restaurant adds to our rich culinary offering at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas which is already so heavily informed by the culture and heritage of the region. Perfectly embodying the laidback lifestyle of Tropical North Queensland and the essence of resort living, Lagoon House Restaurant will be a thriving spot for locals to reconnect and the perfect place for resort guests to unwind and soak up the luxe tropical lifestyle”, said Resort General Manager, Steve Molnar.

Lagoon House Restaurant is a collaborative effort between Executive Chef Belinda Tuckwell who brings 11 years' experience in Asian cuisine working in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Nepal and oversees all culinary offerings at the resort; Culinary Consultant Spencer Patrick of award-winning restaurant Harrison's Port Douglas and Taste Port Douglas; and Sous Chef Eden Lee, who brings unique experience in Japanese and Korean cuisine to the table. The menu celebrates the flavours and ingredients of the local region, embellishing the North Queensland 'soul' of the menu with all three Chefs' personal and culinary backgrounds, including Chef Eden Lee's Korean influences in the flavour profiles.

Guests can kickstart their day with a breakfast inspired by the tropics – from Pani Popo Coconut Buns with passionfruit curd and macadamia butter, to Queensland crab omelette with Asian herbs, hoisin and spring onion, or for something light a Tropical Fruit Plate, Smoothie Bowl or Pineapple Granola. Daintree Eggs Royale with smoked Daintree Barra, spinach and sambal hollandaise is an ode to the UNESCO Heritage Listed rainforest (and one of the most ancient in the world) situated right on the resort's doorstep.

Over lunch and dinner, the menu heroes locally sourced seafood with a clear Asian influence, featuring dishes like Betel leaf with smoked Daintree Barramundi, pomelo, tamarind, chilli and smoked YVC, Oysters katsu with pickled seaweed, Kakuluwo mud crab curry, and Reef fish sashimi with smoked ponzu, finger-lime, radish and nori cracker. Line-caught whole coral trout is prepared steamed to maximise flavour and served with ginger, spring onion and soya.

Also on the menu are dishes prepared by harnessing the flames of an open grill  – serving up fruits from both land and sea including Local tiger prawns with green masala and lime, Smoked wagyu brisket with white kimchi and Pork ribs with Davidson plum sauce and pak choy.

Serving up delicacies reflective of the local lifestyle and the unique produce that has put Port Douglas on the culinary map, Lagoon House Restaurant is the perfect complement to the rich culinary offering at Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas and the embodiment of the region that both locals and travellers can revel in.
