You'll find Undercastle Cottage set deep in the woods on the banks of the Hampshire Avon River in the New Forest National Park. Spend time together in rural solitude with no houses in sight - it's just you and the famous free-roaming ponies, donkeys, deer and surrounding woodland wildlife. Grab a bottle of bubbly, head out to the sun terrace and wrap up warm to watch otters playing in the river, kingfishers swooping, geese and ducks paddling by, and birds of prey circling in the sky above.
Inside is packed with personality and opulence by the bucket load. A tapestry of oak beams, vaulted ceilings, underfloor heating, and a large inglenook fireplace is home to a log burner for you both (and your dog if you don't want to leave him behind) to snuggle in front of. The cottage is furnished with beautiful antiques, squishy sofas and the most comfortable beds donned with handmade mattresses that you'll ever sleep on - long lie-ins will be an absolute treat. Award-winning restaurants and gastropubs (the nearest, just a 20-minute walk) are on hand-hand, and there's the option to book a local chef to come and cook a romantic dinner at the cottage.
Step outside the front door for forest walks and explore over a hundred miles of designated cycle paths – you'll find bikes at the cottage for guest use. There are first-class golf courses, a shooting range, horse riding, river kayaking, and dry slope skiing all close by. And, if you fancy a change of scene, dune-fringed sandy beaches and cliff-top walks are just a half-hour drive south.
The cottage is super cosy and perfect just for two, but if you want to bring family or friends, it can sleep up to six. There are two double bedrooms in the cottage, with an additional ensuite twin in the Fishing Lodge, which is just a few steps across the sun terrace. 4 nights over Valentine's day costs £2,922 to book and find out more, go to www.undercastlecottage.co.uk
