In May 2023 Thornybush is launching Kamara House, a relaxed and elegant family villa in the Thornybush Nature Reserve. Kamara House is designed by esteemed safari architect Caline Williams-Wynn of Artichoke Design, who is behind some of the most eye-catching safari camps in Africa, and was the winner of last year's Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards.
Kamara House sits within Thornybush Game Lodge, which is also re-launching, with a re- design and refurbishment of stunning new interiors. Artichoke applies masterly matching of cool textiles, modern materials and traditional objets to create a timeless but contemporary oasis from which guests can contemplate the incredible wildlife encounters they will have outside camp. It will also boast a fabulous new gym and spa. A new solar plant will also provide a greener solution and reduce dependence on SouthAfrica's very strained energy supply.
Kamara House is an exciting new option for families looking for an exclusive, once-in-a- lifetime safari: a two-bedroom solo-use villa, comprising two doubles, and an optional twin room; which can be further extended by taking the adjacent villa to accommodate larger family groups. Its plunge pool is a luxurious private alternative to the larger main pool at the Lodge. Exclusive-use game vehicles are guaranteed for the villa's guests, from which to experience the incredible game sightings in the Reserve. Thornybush offers exceptional big five encounters and is especially strong on leopard and lion sightings.
Guests may choose to dine privately and luxuriously with a dedicated chef at the villa; or may enjoy the main lodge, if their mood is more to share safari stories by the camp fire and soak up the atmosphere of the candlelit bush dinners. Cuisine is Ottolenghi-inspired buffets, offering a lovely light and fresh approach to safari meals.
As the original lodge in the Reserve, Game Lodge proudly put Thornybush on the map back in 1961; and with this exciting new upgrade it is blazing into its most recent incarnation with characteristic panache.
