Spring Blossom Trail
One of the major hallmarks that spring has sprung in Canberra, is the appearance of blossoms across the region. Dotted throughout the suburbs and nature reserves, the ACT Government has put together a comprehensive map to explore the blossom trail.
Grown mainly as an ornamental, the blossoms appear in late winter primarily as single-petal displays in dark red, pink or white and have a light fragrance. Amongst the many locations to see the beautiful blossoming Japanese Crab Apple is in Canberra's Nara Peace Park. The park is home to the Canberra Nara Candle Festival (29 October) and features a small Japanese-themed garden with several iconic blossom trees.
Commonwealth Park
Home of Canberra's famous, nationally acclaimed festival of flowers Floriade (17 September – 16 October, 2022), Commonwealth Park is a brilliant location to experience the colours of spring. Over one million flowers will bloom across the park during the festival, including a huge array of colourful tulips.
Wildflowers in Reserves
A spring trip to the bush capital wouldn't be complete without exploring the beautiful wildflower displays on offer throughout Canberra's abundant nature reserves. While there are many places across the ACT that offer wildflower experiences, highlights include Namadgi National Park, Mount Painter Nature Reserve, Wanniassa Hills Nature Reserve and Molonglo River Reserve. The ACT Government has a helpful guide for visitors looking to see nature's very own art on show.
