British Airways will operate a twice-weekly service to Georgetown, Guyana from Gatwick starting next March, using Boeing 777-200 aircraft. The first flight will depart on 27th March, operating via Saint Lucia. Specialist tour operator Journey Latin America has been offering tailor-made holidays and group tours to all of Latin America including Guyana for over 40 years is thrilled by the news and anticipate that the new flight will inspire many more travellers to explore one of South America's final frontiers.
English-speaking Guyana, formerly British Guiana is a unique melting pot of Afro-Caribbean, Amerindian, European, Brazilian and Asian influences. The country is composed of vast areas covered by virgin rainforest, savannah and ancient tablelands over one of which spill the stunning Kaieteur Falls. Deep in the almost untrodden interior, there is magnificent jungle scenery and a plethora of wildlife unrivalled on the continent. Jaguars, giant otters, tapirs and over 800 bird species including harpy eagles and coq of the rocks roam undisturbed. This is true wilderness; there are just a few dirt roads heading inland so travel is by river, dirt road or by light plane.
Journey Latin America's 15-day Guyana Wildlife holiday visits Georgetown, Kaieteur Falls, Iwokrama, Surama, and Karnambu in the Rupununi. The price starts from £6,188 per person and includes flights on British Airways, transfers, accommodation, most meals, domestic flights and excursions.
For those able to travel for slightly longer and wish to visit all three Guianas, Journey Latin America's 16-day Coq of the Rock group tour explores Brazil, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. The group tour departs on 3rd October next year and costs from £5,614 per person. The price includes flights (with Air France), accommodation, most meals, transfers and excursions.
