Lonely Planet Launches New ‘Anti-Guidebook’ Experience Series
Including Scotland & Ireland
Global travel authority Lonely Planet has today launched a totally new style of travel guide – the Experience series is an innovative range of books designed to turn travelling on its head.
Dubbed ‘the anti-guidebook’ thanks to its fresh approach, the new titles are written by local experts, from an experience-led perspective. A fresh size and style, these ground-breaking guides are designed for a new generation of savvy travellers looking for a more interactive way to explore, based on interests.
The series will help travellers uncover new ways to get away from the everyday, filled with unforgettable experiences and interesting local surprises, travellers can ‘dip in and dip out’ to explore with a different approach. Each guide also allows pre-trip and in-trip decision making with QR codes unlocking extra content online.
Scotland and Ireland are two of the first countries to be presented in the new style of guides, which get to the heart of the destinations with under the radar places, secret locations, seasonal planning and in-depth articles written by local experts, not just travel writers. Built around travelling themes, such as culinary Cork, beach life of south east Ireland and the pubs of Galway. In Scotland, seafood and sea views of Stirling and Fife, in the footsteps of legends in Glasgow and majestic stately homes of the south.
The collection of six popular destinations also includes Italy, Portugal, Iceland, and Japan. A further 29 Experience guides will be launched throughout 2022 including world regions, cities, and countries.
Chris Zeiher, Series Creator and Senior Director Trade Sales & Marketing for Lonely Planet commented “It’s an exciting new direction for Lonely Planet, we’re calling these the ‘anti-guidebook’ as they are so different to anything else! They combine our many years of travel guide expertise with the knowledge and understanding of how people now want to travel and digest information.”
“It’s all about the experience and many of these are totally un-googleable. Designed for today’s traveller, the Experience Guides are based on research that identifies what travellers want – being able to guide their own trip, being surprised with fresh takes on well-known places and being able to connect with their destination through authentic, memorable experiences.”
Chris adds “We can’t wait for people to discover a new way to be part of the Lonely Planet experience and with travel back on the agenda, these new guides will have you getting away from the everyday and inspiring you to get out and experience even more.”
Inside each Experience guide there are curated experiences, practicality pages with advice on how to be a responsible traveller, unique and local ways to stay, easy-to-use infographics and icons, pull-out city maps, seasonal planning calendars and trip builders, inspiring photography, QR codes to unlock additional online content, plus, a back cover pocket to store travel mementos and notes.
