New Aussie Adventures from Intrepid Travel

Travel’s largest B Corp grows range with focus on First Nations Experiences

8 February 2022 - Intrepid has expanded its programme of Australian adventures in time for the destination opening its doors to international travellers later this month.

The operator has deepened its commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with more than half of trips featuring meaningful First Nations experiences. The new tours also include more active and wellness itineraries, as well as trips that highlight local food and wine.

“It’s wonderful news that Australia will be reopening its borders to vaccinated travellers from 21 February. Our new trips delve deeper into Australia and its diverse cultures, histories, landscapes, food, wine and more.” says Zina Bencheikh, managing director EMEA.

“Australia is home to the oldest continuing culture in the world. Our First Nations experiences give visitors an amazing opportunity to learn about cultural traditions that have been passed down through the generations for thousands of years.”

The new trips include:

Premium Kimberley & Bungle Bungles (9 days, from £5,595pp) This is the opportunity to find out what makes the Kimberley region special. Travellers will learn about the rich First Nations history of the area from Traditional Custodians. They will take guided walks that illuminate local geography, swim in gorges filled with clear waters and under waterfalls, and hike through red-rock formations and palm oases. From Windjana Gorge and Purnululu National Park to vast El Questro station, the Kimberley simply can’t be topped.

Trek the Larapinta Trail (5 days, from £1,350pp) This is one of Australia’s lesser-known but most spectacular bushwalking and trekking routes. Travellers will hike along the red rock slopes of the West MacDonnell Ranges and be able to appreciate the importance this place has had to the local people over thousands of years. Hike to shadowed gorges, snaking riverbanks, open plains and towering mountains filled with a rich diversity of animals and plants, taking in sights like Ormiston Gorge and a rewarding ascent of Mt Sonder. Accommodation is Swag Camping under the stars – an inimitable and authentic experience.

Margaret River and Albany Adventure (5 days, from £1,005pp) Travellers can immerse themselves in a First Nations tour like no other. A highlight of this 5-day adventure from Perth is a thought-provoking and powerful First Nations cultural experience, giving visitors a snapshot into the history of the land and its peoples. The group will take a short bushwalk identifying traditional medicines in plants and hear a mesmerising didgeridoo performance inside the cave. There’s also a chance to taste wine, cheese and chocolate and spend a unique night surrounded by kangaroos and emus at Donnelly River Village.

Red Centre Explorer (6 days, from £1,400pp) Explorers will get to admire Uluru as the colour of this sacred rock changes as day turns to night. There’s an enlightening walk and talk where guests can discover the bush tucker and bush medicines used for spiritual and healing purposes by the Luritja and Pertame (Southern Aranda) people at Karrke on the south east edges of Watarrka National Park. Groups will also explore the depths of Kings Canyon, Kata Tjuta National Park and the West MacDonnell Ranges, stopping by gorges and pristine waterholes for a walk and swim.
