Fresh, new lodging: Hotels, inns and yurts are popping up across Canada as savvy entrepreneurs open luxury accommodations in some of the country's most beautiful settings.
- The nature-inspired Kitoki Inn on Bowen Island, BC boasts cedar-clad cabins and Japanese-style onsen (bathhouses) where visitors can “find themselves in the forest”. Each cabin is appointed with fir paneling, custom woodwork and decor by local artisans, while floor-to-ceiling windows reveal unobstructed views of the surrounding rainforest. Come nightfall, the private deck offers a serene space to unplug and lounge under the stars.
- A new hotel in Calgary, Alberta exudes vintage vibes coupled with modern elements. The Westley Hotel , located in central downtown, is the first of the Hilton's Tapestry Collection to be located in Western Canada. Inside, guests will find the colorful Fonda Fora , a contemporary Mexican restaurant with influences of the Yucatan Peninsula. Amenities include a 24-hour fitness center, laundry and dry cleaning, and free WiFi.
- Banff Lodging Company has opened Banff, Alberta's first boutique motel. Inspired by strong mountain women, The Dorothy Motel offers accommodations for independent travelers, with 42 rooms surrounded by forest and scenic views of the Cascade Mountains. The motel is located at the start of the Legacy Trail, and within walking distance of local shops, restaurants and attractions. The moniker was inspired by Dorothy Carleton, a backcountry pioneer, and celebrates the First Nations and Métis people who first called the Rockies home, as well as inspiring women like Mary Schaffer and Mary Vaux. Amenities include free WiFi, bike storage with a tune-up station, and an outdoor courtyard.
- Authentic Seacoast Company invites visitors to glamp in Guysborough, Nova Scotia through the new Yurts in the Vineyard experience . Idyllically located in pockets of oceanside vineyard, along a scenic peninsula in Chedabucto Bay, the site includes 10 Mongolian-style yurts that are fully furnished and equipped with amenities like private BBQ and firepit, kitchen supply kit, and free WiFi. All yurts include a skylight for stargazing and a wood stove to keep guests cozy, while a select few are pet-friendly and outfitted with a private hot tub. There's also a seaside sauna, distillery and brewery , and outdoor activities like kayaking and biking.
- Opening in 2022, the new Halifax Tower Hotel in Halifax, Nova Scotia will house 87 rooms, as well as 12 premier suites and four luxury suites. Plans include a restaurant and lounge on the main level, a banquet and conference room on the second, and a pool, gym and common rooms on the third. The hotel is centrally located in Bayers Lake Business Park, one of the largest in Atlantic Canada and a premier destination for shopping, dining and entertainment.
- Set to open in early 2022, Gros Morne Inn in Newfoundland and Labrador will feature an expansive dark sky viewing patio and outdoor cedar-jetted tubs with unobstructed views of Bonne Bay. The inn has partnered with Atlantic Healthy Oceans Initiative to become one of the only Oceanwise-certified businesses in the region, as well as a B Corp establishment. It sits at the foot of the Tableland Mountains, where visitors can hike to the “top of the bottom of the Earth” and see spectacular views over Gros Morne Mountain.
