Hilton Brisbane Plants 300 Trees to Help Regenerate Local Habitats
Environmental initiative part of hotel's commitment to its Travel with Purpose 2030 goals
BRISBANE, Australia – Hilton Brisbane team members came together with Brisbane City Council to leave a living legacy by planting 300 trees in local parkland. This initiative honours a commitment the hotel made in early 2019, to make a positive difference in the environment by planting 100 trees every year, on the occasion of Hilton's 100th anniversary.
A group of 20 enthusiastic volunteers gathered at Kate St Park in Carina to put shovel to soil and were proud contributors to Brisbane City Council's ongoing program to regenerate local habitats with native flora and fauna. In May 2019, Hilton Brisbane team members first helped plant 100 trees to celebrate Hilton's milestone centenary event. Having missed the last two years due to Covid-19 restrictions, the hotel arranged to plant 300 trees at this event to deliver on their commitment.
“Planting 100 trees on our 100th anniversary was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to the community and the environment,” said Chris Partridge, area general manager, south east Queensland, Hilton. “To be able to come together again in 2021 to plant another 300 trees reinforces our team's determination to help make Hilton's Travel with Purpose 2030 goals a reality”.
Earlier this year and for the fourth year running, Hilton Brisbane was recognised for its Environmental & Energy Efficiency Practice at the Queensland Hotel Association Awards for Excellence, having won the award in 2017 and 2018, and achieve finalist placings in 2019 and 2021. These awards highlight Hilton Brisbane's commitment to halve its environmental footprint through responsible hospitality across its value chain as part of Hilton's Travel with Purpose 2030 goals.
Hilton Brisbane has initiatives across more than 25 waste streams and community partnerships including the recycling of used soap through Soap Aid Australia, oral care items and other single-use plastics through TerraCycle, single-use coffee cups through Closed Loop and single-use containers through Envirobank. Hilton Brisbane is also home to five beehives (250,000 pollinators) that produce 500 kilograms of honey per year, which is then used in the hotel's kitchens and as gifts to guests and clients.
