Get together outside with friends and family and channel your inner adventurer with a Treasure Trail this August Bank Holiday Weekend (28th-30th August).

Treasure Trails are themed self-guided booklets, costing £9.99 (plus P&P if required), which take explorers on a circular outdoor walking route of approximately two miles.

With more than 1,200 to choose from across the UK, you can discover secrets of your hometown or uncover stories in places further afield as you solve clues to crack a detective mystery, treasure hunt, or spy mission.

• Durham City Mystery

This is a firm favourite with Trailers. Beginning in Market Place, explore the colourful houses of Gilesgate, an old church, ancient woodland and the riverside on this detective mystery Trail. Will you discover whodunit?

• Old St. Albans

X marks the spot on this treasure hunt exploring what was one of the UK's largest Roman settlements. An amateur archaeologist has discovered a priceless artefact and plans on selling it to a dealer, meaning it will be lost forever! His notebook contains clues that lead to the treasure; will you find the secret location?

• Bourton-on-the-Water

You'll need to don your detective hats for this top 10 detective mystery weaving through the idyllic village of Bourton-on-the-Water. Cross the five bridges and the River Windrush, visit the Model Village, some Roman ruins and the Motor Museum and even spot some penguins at Birdland.

• Southwold

Calling all detectives! You'll need to hunt high and low on this Treasure Trail to defeat the evil villain of the 'Tea Shop Wars'. Hunt high and low for clues on the promenade of this seaside town.

• Whitby Curse of the Vampire

Follow in the footsteps of Bram Stoker in this treasure hunt and take in the panoramic coastal views and search along Whitby's oldest street for clues.

• Richmond Upon Thames

Discover whodunit on one of our Trailers favourite detective mystery Trails. Beginning at Richmond Bridge, you will be hunting for clues along the riverside before exploring the wonderful Richmond Green.

• Wells

There's mystery afoot in this quaint English city… Shocking news has emerged that film extra Stan D'Enstare was discovered slumped on the set of Cold Cops in the city centre, solve the sneaky clues to find out who committed this dastardly act – before they strike again!

• Winchester City and Castle

Solve the sneaky clues set on existing buildings, permanent features and monuments on this route, exploring the old city of Winchester City and its castle. Take a route through the high street, past the castle, Great Hall and Military Museum whilst solving this detective mystery.

• Padstow

One of Treasure Trail fans' top Trails, this detective mystery exploring this Cornish hot spot is sure to test even the best problem solvers. Hunt high and low past medieval inns, throughout the ancient churchyard of St Petroc's and towards the haunted Abbey House, uncovering the history of the bustling harbour town.

• Ambleside – A Rambler's Riddle

Friends and family will need to work together to complete this Treasure Trail. You'll visit the curious Bridge House, the delightful Peggy Hill and the alleys around the town centre en-route. There will also be a chance to visit the classic Lakeland church of St Marys with its iconic steeple.
