Sydney is the envy of Australia with a whale watching season that lasts over five months of the year. One of the best ways to see Humpback whales in their natural environment is aboard Captain Cook Cruises.
Over 20,000 whales make the 3,500km journey from Antarctic-waters to the Great Barrier Reef each year. Positioned mid-way along the route, Sydney enjoys a whale watching window from mid-May to October.
“Whale sightings peak off Sydney between June and July during the Northern migration and between September and October during the Southern migration. In August, whale behaviour is often more spectacular with younger males showing off to guests with amazing breaches.” said Captain Cook Cruises' General Manager, Nick Lester.
Captain Cook Cruises Whale Watching tours operate on family-friendly catamarans, indoor and outdoor seating with multi-level viewing. Passenger numbers are strictly limited to ensure everyone has great views of all the action while the onboard Marine Naturalist provides expert commentary and insights into the whale behaviour.
The three-hour Whale Watching tours depart at 10am daily during the school holidays and on weekends throughout the season from 22 May to 31 October 2021. Additional afternoon tours operate at 1.15pm on weekends. All tours depart from Darling Harbour, King St Wharf 2.
There are three ways to save on a Captain Cook Cruise Whale Watching tour: use a Dine & Discover voucher, book a pre-season ticket, or simply book online.
Captain Cook Cruises are doubling the value of NSW Dine & Discover vouchers to $50. Whale Watching prices reduce to $49 with a voucher, normally $99, valid for sale and travel to 30 June 2021.
If your whale-spotting plans are for the July Winter school holidays, or if you are travelling to Sydney from interstate, pre-season tickets are also available from $59 for travel to 11 July 2021. Pre-season tickets must be purchased before 20 May 2021 to take advantage of the discounts.
Great specials are available from $65 per person for travel from 12 July onwards, with infants under 4 years are free of charge.
