Okinawa's presence at the event provides an opportunity for attendees to learn more about Japan's sub-tropical southernmost prefecture alongside some exciting new openings in the destination, including sustainable eco-resort Treeful Treehouse, minimalist cliff-top retreat EMIL NAKIJIN, private 'hideaway' villa accommodation U-MUI Forest Villa and OMO5 Okinawa Naha set to open in the vibrant prefectural capital this year.

Commenting on the destination's participation in the event, Kahoru Lijima, Coordinator – Sales and Promotion Department, Okinawa Convention and Visitors Bureau said: “We are delighted to be involved in this year's event and look forward to sharing more detail of Okinawa with attendees from across the UK via the event's new virtual platform. With its unique combination of Japanese culture, sub-tropical temperatures, idyllic islands and stunning scenery, Okinawa promises a unique experience that we hope many more visitors will want to discover once travel to the region resumes.”

Just 3 hours by air from Tokyo and blessed with incredible natural beauty, from lush forests and cascading waterfalls to crystal blue waters abundant with coral and golden sands, Okinawa comprises 160 spectacular islands and a for beach lovers and sport enthusiasts alike, travellers can enjoy an array of water and land- based sports including scuba diving – Okinawa is renowned as one of the foremost diving and snorkelling destinations in the world – river kayaking, surfing, whale watching, canoeing, jungle trekking, hiking, cycling and walking. The birthplace of karate, the islands are also home to numerous dojos.

Thanks to its unique history and heritage, Okinawa still appeals to culture seekers wanting to explore the region's fascinating past as the once independent Ryukyu Kingdom. Influences from this time can still been seen today in the prefecture's historic sites, performing arts, crafts, traditions and events. Okinawa's culinary culture is also unique, using the bountiful fresh produce the region's natural environment produces. In fact, this dietary culture is believed to be a key factor in Okinawa's status as one of only five 'Blue Zones' or 'longevity hotspots' in the world where people live longer than anywhere else.
