Travel writer and BGTW member Lottie Gross has won the coveted Young Travel Writer of the Year accolade at last week's Travel Media Awards.
Lottie has been a travel writer for just over eight years, working in-house for Rough Guides and loveEXPLORING, and recently freelancing for the likes of The Telegraph, AFAR and BBC Radio 4.
The award was given for her work on two stories featured in The Telegraph. The first explored the impact of wildlife conservation on indigenous human populations in Uganda, and the second put forward a compelling case for visiting little-loved cities in Britain such as Stoke-on-Trent, Hull and Derby.
On her win, Lottie said: "I was utterly astounded to hear my name called during the awards ceremony last week. Having been nominated numerous times and now edging on 'too old' for this accolade, I was delighted to have been awarded just in time! I was gutted I couldn't have the customary warm white wine in the pub with colleagues afterwards, but can't wait to celebrate with my esteemed fellow winners soon."
Lottie is now a freelance travel writer and digital editor, and co-founder of the Talking Travel Writing newsletter, which promises to demystify the travel media for established and aspiring writers. She is available for commissions and, once the pandemic allows, is hoping to get back on the road again later this year.
