Lake Como has been drawing visitors for thousands of years. It is said that Pliny the Younger had a villa in Bellagio and of course it is well known that the Clooneys have a residence on the lake. Many of its grand hotels date from the late 19th century and continue to adorn the lakeshore. The lake is 40km in length and is criss-crossed by a network of ferries, enabling easy exploration of the best sights and points of interest. Cadenabbia, Tremezzo, Bellagio and Menaggio are the best known villages of the central lake area with a backdrop of snow tipped mountains contrasting with the lush vegetation at lake level.
Ross and Doriana Whieldon own and operate the Hotel Britannia hotelbritanniacadenabbla.com and Hotel Bazzoni hotelbazzonitremezzo.com where guests enjoy an 'all inclusive' arrangement in both hotels– the first 'all inclusive' offering on Lake Como and guests of either hotel have access to facilities in both hotels. These include 7 restaurants, 4 bars, 3 swimming pools – including Europe's largest floating pool, a hot tub plus road and lake guest shuttles.
There are three levels of all inclusivity; Classic, Gold and Platinum. Details of each can be found at either hotel's website
Hotel Britannia Excelsior, Cadenabbia:
Sitting grandly on the western lakeshore directly facing Bellagio, the Hotel Britannia was opened in 1890 and its architecture is in the classis style of the time. Many of the comfortable guest rooms look out over the lake while others look towards the mountains behind Cadenabbia. Across the road from the hotel, is the Britannia's remarkable swimming pool, being Europe's biggest floating swimming pool. While the pool is the focal point, guests also enjoy the poolside bar and Cove restaurant, featuring a Brazilian barbecue menu on those balmy summer evenings.
The main dining area of the Britannia is the splendid Queen Victoria buffet dining room, a stylish reminder of a bygone era. Here, an extensive buffet breakfast is served, as well as lunch and dinner. Downstairs from the main hotel lobby is the ever popular Bubbles bar, with frequent live music in the evening. About 150m from the hotel is the Lido, with an additional swimming pool, bar, lakeside restaurant and pizzeria. The Lido and its facilities are managed by the hotel and form part of the all inclusive arrangement.
The ferry dock is about 200m from the hotel, with frequent services to Bellagio.
Hotel Bazzoni, Tremezzo:
Located near the Villa Carlotta, one of Lake Como's most iconic landmarks, the Hotel Bazzoni is a stone's throw from the lake with unbroken views to Bellagio and Villa Melzi. Many of the Bazzoni's guest rooms have been recently renovated along with the lobby area, which has been remodeled to accommodate the impressive bar, which prides itself on its cocktail making expertise. There are three dining options; the first is in the grand dining room, located on the first floor of the hotel, affording expansive lake views. Here, buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner is served. Another dining option is 'Simply Pasta', needing no further explanation! And for those special occasions, Bazzoni's latest addition – Number 26 – is an innovative gourmet restaurant.
In the courtyard at the top of the hotel the swimming pool, hot tub and sunbathing area is a haven for sun worshippers. The local ferry stops across the road from the hotel enabling easy access to lake exploration.
Please see each hotel's website for terms and conditions pertaining to the three levels of 'all inclusive' board
