ANTICIPATED FALL IN HOUSE PRICES PRESENTS OPPORTUNITY FOR SECOND HOMEOWNERS
Original Cottages reveal spike in letting of second homes as staycation market continues to grow.
Experts have predicted that property prices will fall significantly towards the end of the year*, and according to data from Original Cottages, Brits are using the fall in property prices and the relief in stamp duty as an opportunity to purchase a second home as a holiday let.
Original Cottages, the holiday cottage experts, reported a surge in visitors to the 'Let with Us' section of their website between July and September 2020, an increase of 178% compared to the same period last year. During the summer season alone, they received around 400 enquiries from prospective clients who were considering investing in a holiday let and almost 300 direct queries from people who already had a holiday let to set-up.
The data also revealed that since the start of the pandemic, the brand has increased its property portfolio and it's people from towns such as Norwich, Swansea and Exeter who are the ones using 2020 as the year to invest a holiday let. Norwich continues to lead the way as the city with the highest number of second homeowners within the Original Cottages portfolio with 277 individual owners with 346 properties across England and Wales. When it comes to destinations for holiday cottages, Original Cottages has pulled out the top 5 destinations that are proving popular amongst those seeking to list their property with them.
