This month ITV Wales will air a new series to showcase the remarkable stories and wonderful scenery along Wales’ coastline. ITV’s Sean Fletcher explores the 870-mile Wales Coast Path on an epic adventure along one of the world’s most unique coastlines. 

The series, Wonders of the Coast Path, will air weekly on ITV Wales from 27th April at 8.30pm before airing nationally from July 2020. The series will provide some much needed wanderlust at home, exploring the unique wildlife, dramatic landscapes and vibrant communities along the coast path from North Wales’ Talacre Dunes to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast.

Wonderful wildlife 

Join presenter Sean Fletcher (Good Morning Britain, Countryfile) as he discovers the fascinating history and wildlife on the world’s first uninterrupted route along a national coast. In North Wales hunt for rare natterjack toads and discover how they were reintroduced into the area. On the Llŷn Peninsula admire the clear skies at one of the darkest points in the UK, Uwchmynydd. 

In Cardigan Bay audiences will marvel at Borth’s ancient sunken forest, which was buried under water and sand more than 4,500 years ago, before heading down the coast to The Gower to learn the history behind one of Wales’ most beautiful landscapes, Worm’s Head.

Coastal communities  

Meet some of the inspirational people who call the Welsh coast their home, including local surfer Llewleyn Williams who rides the waves at Hell’s Mouth, Llŷn Peninsula. Sean learns Llewelyn’s inspirational story who, after tragically losing his leg when he was hit by a car, is now aiming for the Paralympic Games. 

Whilst in Pembrokeshire, Sean joins the Pembrokeshire Blind Society for a coastal walk to discover how the Wales Coast Path is accessible to everyone, with the visually impaired walkers able to enjoy the path using other senses.  

The new series captures the unique stories and biodiversity along the Welsh coastline, which is home to vibrant communities, breathtaking scenery and rare wildlife. The Wales Coast Path remains committed to conversing the path’s coastal environments, whilst promoting the positive benefits of walking. Given the current coronavirus situation, the Wales Coast Path encourages audiences to enjoy the series from the comfort of their own home and plan to visit Wales, later.  

The six-part series will air in Wales from 27th April, before airing across the UK in July 2020. See the full episode breakdown below.

About the Wales Coast Path 

The Wales Coast Path opened in May 2012, making Wales the first country in the world to provide an uninterrupted route along a national coast. The Wales Coast Path showcases Wales’ beaches, estuaries, cliffs, woodlands and hills. Along the path also discover city waterfronts, writers’ retreats, rare wildlife and historic castles. There is 870 miles of coastline waiting to be explored in 2019, with the path a haven for hiking, wildlife and breathtaking views of the iconic Welsh coast.
