Landal GreenParks UK, the UK branch of the European holiday resort specialist, has launched their commitment to sustainable tourism by launching their own green initiative called 'Our Green Pledge'.
The newly launched Green Pledge will demonstrate how Landal GreenParks UK is investing in a brighter, cleaner future and committing to offer unforgettable natural getaways with a positive impact on the environment.
The green initiative has been welcomed by employees and partners, with all six UK resorts signing the pledge to implement positive and sustainable changes across ten key areas including:
- All single use plastics will be reduced by 50% in 2020 and phased out completely by 2022 with no single use plastic water bottles being sold at the resorts
- Provide food bank collection points for all guests and staff to donate into
- 50% of all resort-owned vehicles being electric by 2025, and 100% by 2030
- 75% of all lighting is currently LED, with a commitment to 100% by 2025
- Aim to source electricity generated from 100% renewable energy sources by 2025
- Tree planting initiatives promoted across the resorts and within the local region as well as promoting biodiversity, with dedicated wildflower and nature areas
- Introduction of water reduction measures to reduce average water usage per accommodation by 10%
Paul Hardingham of Landal GreenParks UK joined resorts Landal Kielder Waterside and Landal Gwel an Mor to plant aspen, silver birch, rowan, wild cherry and lime trees to mark this important commitment for the company.
Paul Hardingham said, “We are already working closely with our resorts and partners to ensure a sustainable future; however, this pledge will further our actions and impact, which will enable us to reach our goal of being carbon neutral by 2030. We are dedicated to raising further awareness of sustainable travel and driving positive change among our resorts and holidaymakers.”
In December, Landal GreenParks UK became the first holiday resort company to be awarded the prestigious Green Key accreditation – an eco-label, awarded to accommodation and other hospitality facilities that promote a culture of sustainable development and environmental awareness, whilst taking steps to reduce their own level of consumption and carbon footprint.
During the rigorous judging, each Landal GreenParks UK holiday resort was assessed against criteria including staff involvement, guest information and sustainable management of energy, waste, water, cleaning and food and drinks.
