Son Brull Hotel & Spa, Mallorca

Introducing: Son Brull, Mallorca

January 2020…/ We are pleased to announce that we are now working with Son Brull Hotel & Spa, one of Mallorca's best boutique hotels.

Set in the foothills of northern Mallorca, the magnificent honey-coloured property was originally built as an 'alqueria' (an Arabic farmhouse) in the 12th century during Mallorca's Arab rule, before housing a Jesuit monastery in the 18th century. During its transformation by the proudly Mallorcan Suau family into a beautifully designed hotel and spa, great care was taken to maintain the property's unique architectural heritage whilst introducing a gorgeous contemporary aesthetic within its historic walls.

The concept:

Back in the 1700s, Son Brull's resident monks lived off the land and welcomed tired travellers in need of shelter, food and solace. Fast forward three centuries and Son Brull continues to focus on excellent hospitality (albeit in more luxurious surroundings) and local island cuisine gleaned from the sea, the surrounding mountains and its very own garden and groves.

Art & design:

Combining original 12th century architecture with modern décor throughout, the lovingly restored building charms guests from the outset. The interior design is by Ignasi Forteza, a young Mallorcan designer and personal friend of the Suau family. A hand-picked selection of Mallorcan artists were asked to capture the essence of the island, creating beautiful works adorning both public spaces and guest rooms, suites and villas.

Rooms & villas:

A total of 23 individually-styled rooms and suites, and four new Villa Suites have been meticulously decorated with hand-selected furniture and art work with a focus on sourcing from Mallorcan craftspeople. Every room is different, and may include original wooden beamed ceilings, free-standing tubs and stunning valley or vineyard views. Each is fitted with Bang & Olufsen TV and audio systems, individual wi-fi and natural bathing products made by Son Brull using locally grown oranges. Couples on a romantic break will love the spacious Junior Suite with terrace; its spectacular sunset views are best enjoyed in the open-air Jacuzzi.

Villa Suites

Guests looking for a little more space and privacy will love the four beautiful Villa Suites, added in 2019. With a secluded setting away from the original hotel building, these spacious villas seamlessly combine modern Mallorcan architecture with all the luxury services of Son Brull, including concierge, boutique spa and award-winning restaurant.

Designed by Carme Pinos, each Villa Suite features two individually-decorated bedrooms (one double and one twin), two sleek bathrooms, two fireplaces, and a private garden with stunning valley views and a heated swimming pool, making these particularly suited for families or groups of friends.

Food & drink:

Open for dinner all year to guests and visitors, the renowned Restaurant 365 is undoubtedly one of the finest organic restaurants in Mallorca. Experience the unique flavours of the island either in the elegant candle-lit dining room or out on the terrace overlooking the valley.

Ingredients are sourced from the hotel's very own organic plot or the island's sea and mountains to create innovative and delicious dishes. Seasonal tasting menus matched with fine wines give an all-round gastronomic experience of the island's offerings, while the à la carte menu features creative dishes to suit every palate. Both menus include a wide selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

The modern Bistró serves light, Mediterranean-style dishes with a twist, such as artichoke carpaccio with hummus and honey vinaigrette, as well as tapas, sandwiches and salads with ingredients often freshly picked from Son Brull's organic garden. Guests can enjoy classic Spanish favourites too, including gazpacho, spicy patatas bravas, grilled red prawns from the nearby Bay of Pollensa and traditional seafood paella. The Bistró kitchen is open for lunch and dinner and meals can be served by the pool overlooking the vineyards and valley, or by the fireplace in cooler weather.

Spectacularly set in an 18th century olive mill that remains unchanged since first used by the monks, the charming Son Brull Bar offers some of the best cocktails on the island, accompanied by a stunning view. Sip a classic Gin & Tonic, prepared with Son Brull's own gin, or the house cocktail, Son Brull Fizz, a refreshing blend of gin, sugar, soda and lemons.

Spa & wellness:

Son Brull Hotel Spa is the only luxury spa in Pollensa. Guests can choose from a wide range of all-natural treatments and seasonal rituals using local ingredients such as the fruit, flower and tender leaf of the Mallorcan prickly pear.

Hotel guests have complimentary use of the spa facilities;, including a thermal circuit, sauna and steam bath to soothe tired muscles, and complimentary morning yoga sessions in the yoga studio to uplift and revive both body and mind. There's also a fully-equipped gym, outdoor heated pool, tennis court and personal training upon request, and a variety of nearby world-class golf courses on the doorstep. Non-residents are welcome, with several day and half day packages available, combining treatments with use of the facilities.

Local area & activities:

Along Pollensa's narrow cobblestoned streets are pretty honey-coloured stone buildings housing boutiques, galleries and craft shops, giving the town a distinctive artistic feel. Formentor beach is just 7km from Pollensa and is one of Mallorca's most beautiful; a long stretch of sand with a backdrop of pine trees, the beach has restaurants, bars, watersports and lifeguards on duty.

Located in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains, this beautiful landscape is the setting for many adventurous excursions, from cycling and hiking through picturesque nature trails within the UNESCO Heritage park, to canyoning in the nearby river.

Son Brull offers complementary electric bicycles to guests wishing to venture out and whether on wheels, horseback or two feet, the hotel has expert guides on hand to enable deep exploration of Mallorca's hidden gems.

There are cooking classes and private vineyard visits for food and wine lovers, whilst helicopter trips, yacht hire and hot air balloon rides can cater for the most adrenalin driven guests.
