Edinburgh's five star visitor attraction, Dynamic Earth, is embracing festival fever this August with Dome Nights, augmented reality and the first ever zero-waste performance venue at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The venue's incredibly popular Dome Nights will be returning Thursday to Sunday evenings, from 2-25 August, offering four cinematic treats. Visitors can enjoy a fully immersive musical experience, featuring digital dome technology and thunderous surround sound, before relaxing and enjoying refreshments in Dynamic Earth's Fringe pop up bar.
Following the success at last year's Fringe, the incredible dome screenings, 'Dark Side of the Moon' and 'Wish You Were Here” inspired by the music of the legendary Pink Floyd rock band along with spell-binding abstract projections and mesmerising HD graphics, will be making a return
For those looking for more musical variety, Sonic Vision combines pop and rock tracks with even more mind-warping visual art. Or, if education is at the forefront of the festival experience, visitors can opt for Planets 360. Audiences will be transported out of this world watching a mixture of art and science on the dome, whilst listening to the British composer Gustav Holst's The Planets orchestral suite.
There will be more festival fun taking place during the day at the attraction. For the first time, the venue is hosting 'The Greenhouse' by BoxedIn Theatre, a purpose-built, immersive structure and Fringe venue. Holding up to 30 people, the zero-waste venue can be found in front of Dynamic Earth and is built entirely from recycled materials.
From 2-26 August, The Greenhouse will host eight shows a day, as well as an educational programme of talks and workshops, all themed around our relationship with the environment. From storytelling to family theatre to straight drama, there is something for everyone, and all of the shows are premiering at the Edinburgh Fringe.
As if that wasn't enough, August stands for augmented reality (AR) at Dynamic Earth, with a brand new quiz. New for summer 2019, the AR quiz adds a new dimension to the tour, and invites novices and experts of all ages to embark on a special mission; to answer questions in a bid to complete the quiz and make it to the top of the leader board. The AR quizzes are available in French, German, Spanish and Italian.
Delighted with Dynamic Earth's summer offerings, Eilidh Massie, Marketing Director at Dynamic Earth, said: “We always enjoy being part of the world famous Edinburgh Fringe and this year is no exception. We're particularly thrilled to welcome The Greenhouse Initiative to Edinburgh. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to help make the Fringe more environmentally friendly and we're very excited to be involved.”
Oli Savage, Artistic Director at The Greenhouse Theatre added: "We are so excited to be working with Dynamic Earth on The Greenhouse. As an organisation at the heart of Edinburgh that puts such an emphasis on our planet and its natural history, it just seemed like a natural partnership. Creating a connection between Edinburgh's natural heritage and its cultural heritage is so important to ensure that future generations can benefit from both - and I think that's an idea that Dynamic Earth and The Greenhouse share. We can't wait to work with them in bringing a more sustainable approach to this year's Edinburgh Fringe!”
Dome Night tickets start from £10 for adults and £8 for concessions.
