With the summer holidays kicking in next week, luxury operator Elegant Resorts shares its booking trends and reveals its best-selling and up and coming destinations as well as a host of great deals still available for those looking for a great holiday.
General trends
Longer holidays - Elegant Resorts' clients are having longer summer holidays this year. With such a late Easter, fewer people went away in May, yet bookings are flooding in for a strong summer with guests staying longer - an average of 8.4 nights compared to 7.9 nights last year.
A late market - With the uncertainties linked to Brexit, people have left their bookings to the very last minute and are now making the most of the many great deals on offer. Whilst reservations had been sluggish at the beginning of the year, the market has caught up following the delay to Brexit.
2020 looking up – Bookings for 2020 are up 25% year-on-year, as clients are keen to secure low airfares and make the most of early bird discounts, following the year's uncertainties.
Top 5 destinations
Greece – Retaining its number one position as Elegant Resorts' favourite summer destination, Costa Navarino and Crete have been very popular with families, with resorts such as The Westin Resort, Costa Navarino, The Romanos, Costa Navarino and Daios Cove Luxury Resort & Villas are leading the way. The recently open Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel, Athens has also become one of the most popular properties in Europe.
Italy – This year, Puglia is the place to be, with Rocco Forte's new Masseria Torre Maizza already a firm favourite. Family oriented properties such as Forte Village in Sardinia, Rocco Forte's Verdura Resort in Sicily and Borgo Egnazia in Puglia are also extremely popular, whilst couples mostly choose to go to the Italian Lakes, Portofino and the Tuscan Coast.
Barbados – Early Summer is a great time to visit, and with great deals to be had, Elegant Resorts secured a high number of bookings this year.
USA – California is having a revival with the reopening of Highway 1, the attraction of the Wine Routes of Napa and the golden beaches along the world-famous coastline. Families are booking Florida's theme parks following the recent launch of Elegant Resorts' new Family Adventures brochure.
Portugal – The Algarve and the family friendly resorts of VILA VITA Parc Resort & Spa, Pine Cliffs, a Luxury Collection Resort and the Anantara Vilamoura are strong favourites.
Destinations with the largest growth
Japan – Up 333% year-on-year, and a new destination to Elegant Resorts, clients book itineraries that take in the classic sights around the country and include luxury resorts as well as traditional Ryokans.
Canada – The destination is up 86% year-on-year, with the West Coast and the Rockies being the most popular regions.
Seychelles – Up 79% year-on-year, following the openings of Six Senses Zil Pasyon and Four Seasons Resort Seychelles at Desroches Island, as well as direct flights with British Airways.
Emerging destinations
Turkey – The country is making a big come back thanks to the opening of stunning resorts in Bodrum. Elegant Resorts' clients are mostly booking Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum, Six Senses Kaplankaya and D-Maris Bay.
Corfu – A great mix of culture and beach, this is the latest Greek island added to the portfolio thanks to the opening of three luxury properties, Domes Miramare, Corfu Imperial Grecotel Exclusive Resort and MarBella Nido Suite Hotel & Villas.
St Barths – The island had a makeover and is a strong contender in the glamourous category as resorts have had incredible upgrades. Stylish Hôtel Le Toiny and Le Sereno, set on one of the most stunning beaches in the world, are extremely popular this summer.
