Congham Hall Hotel (01485 600250; www.conghamhallhotel.co.uk) has relaunched its free art trail to coincide with the opening on 1 May of 'Nature and Inspiration', a major new exhibition of sculptor Henry Moore's work at nearby stately home Houghton Hall. The trail is complemented by a special two-night midweek package, the 'Henry Moore Break', available throughout May and June, which includes two free tickets to the Moore exhibition.
Curated by Sebastiano Barassi, Head of Collections & Exhibitions at the Henry Moore Foundation, this is the first significant show of Sir Henry Moore's work in East Anglia for many years. Several of his most recognisable sculptures will be displayed in Houghton's grounds – large-scale bronzes and fibreglass pieces including 'Three Piece Sculpture: Vertebrae'. Some of the artist's smaller models and drawings will also be exhibited inside the Hall.
At the same time, Norfolk By Design will return to Houghton's stables, a pop-up exhibition and shop featuring some of Norfolk's finest artists and designer-makers.
Congham Hall created the 'Six of the Best…Art Experiences in Norfolk' Trail, now in its fourth year, because of its own interest in the subject. A collection of art and sculpture is on display around the hotel for guests to enjoy, such as Norfolk-based Rachel Lockwood's painting The Night Hunters in the Writing Room. Work by some of the artists mounted at Congham Hall can be purchased at Pinkfoot Gallery in Cley next the Sea.
'Nature and Inspiration' is one of six recommended stops on the updated trail for art lovers to discover under their own steam. Others include GroundWork Gallery in King's Lynn, the UK's first gallery dedicated to art and the environment, and The Old Skating Rink Gallery in Norwich, which runs a rotating exhibition of its collection of more than 4,000 decorative furnishings and garments gathered from Turkey to east of Java.
Six of the Best…Art Experiences in Norfolk is available to download free on the hotel's website and in hard copy form from the hotel reception.
The 'Henry Moore Break' costs from £235 per room per night, based on two sharing a double or twin room for two nights, and includes breakfast daily, a three-course meal each evening from the a la carte menu in the hotel's 2 AA Rosette restaurant, and complimentary use of the thermal suite and pool in the Secret Garden Spa. The break is available Tuesday to Thursday, 1 May to 27 June, including two free tickets to the Moore exhibition, and access to Houghton Hall's historic house and gardens. Limited opening times mean entrance to the exhibition on this break is on Wednesdays and Thursdays only, 11am-4pm.
To book: Call 01485 600250; www.conghamhallhotel.co.uk quoting 'Henry Moore Break'. All treatments should be booked in advance directly with the spa on 01485 609300.
