LONDON (January 8, 2019) - Resonance Consultancy, the leading advisors in real estate, tourism, and economic development for countries, cities and communities, is pleased to announce the release of its Future of Chinese International Travel Report, in partnership with China Luxury Advisors (CLA), a global consultancy that advises luxury brands, tourism boards, destinations and retailers on their China consumer strategies. The full report, which predicts the number of international Chinese travelers to almost triple in the next decade, is now available for download at www.resonanceco.com/reports/2019-the-future-of-chinese-international-travel/.

The Future of Chinese International Travel represents a comprehensive survey of more than 3,000 mainland Chinese tourists, aged 20 and older, who travelled internationally in the past 12 months about their long-haul, international travel preferences. The future-focused report provides fresh insights and tools for current and future Resonance clients to leverage their market leadership in a fast-growing, massively impactful tourism and hospitality sector like Chinese overseas travel.

Key insights within include the prediction that the number of Chinese passport holders will double to 240 million by 2020—only 7% of Chinese citizens currently have passports—and that international trips by the country's residents will increase from 145 million in 2017 to more than 400 million by 2030.  Additionally, Chinese travellers have spent $20 billion abroad and that sum is expected to hit $40 billion in the next four years.

The report also delves into key factors that will drive future Chinese international travel, with Australia being predicted as the most coveted future destination, followed closely by France and the United States. Additional predictions include the rise of Chinese independent travellers; the rise in Chinese travellers seeking to reconnect with nature; and the increase in active leisure travel, among other key factors that destination marketers around the world need to immediately prepare for.

“We hope the fresh insights from this far-reaching study will help our clients, tourism and destination leaders—from destination marketing organizations to economic development teams—prepare for one of the next decade's biggest opportunities: a period in which the number of international Chinese travellers is predicted to almost triple,” says Resonance President and CEO Chris Fair. “This report is a good first step and we look forward to showing how Resonance Consultancy and China Luxury Advisors can help destinations leverage this opportunity within their Chinese traveller and buyer strategy.”
