Hencote Vineyard Estate

Hencote Vineyard Estate, near Shrewsbury in Shropshire, is expanding its operation with a new restaurant and wine bar, cellar door wine shop, wine tours and experiences, and glamping accommodation this summer.

Benefitting from an unbeatable elevated location just one mile from Shrewsbury's town centre, the 60-acre hilltop estate offers guests delightful panoramic views across the historic town, towards the hills of Wenlock Edge and Long Mynd in the distance.

New luxury vineyard lodges in the grounds of the estate will be available in August. Taking glamping to a new level with underfloor heating and wood burning fires, the lodges feature fully fitted and plumbed-in kitchens and bathrooms with a bath and shower. A cosy living space with sofa, chairs and a dining table and bedrooms with double-beds, complete the comfortable facilities.

Opening in early September will be a light and airy new restaurant, featuring open fire cooking, a large terrace that overlooks the impressive 17-acre vineyard. A beautifully appointed wine bar, with furnishings crafted by artisans from white Sycamore, will serve wine and other drinks. The whole facility will be used for wine tasting experiences, and as an inspiring event space for private hire.

As a working vineyard, visitors can enjoy private and group wine tours. General Manager, Mark Stevens, guides visitors through the process from vine to bottle, walking through the vineyard and finishing in the new winery to learn more about the production process and to sample some of the wines. During harvest season, guests are welcome to join in with the picking of grapes for production and immerse themselves in the early stage of the winemaking process to learn more. The estate currently nurtures Seyval Blanc, Pinot Noir Precoce, Pinot Meunier, Chardonnay, and Solaris vines.

Owner Andy Stevens says: “We look forward to welcoming visitors to our wonderful new facilities and sharing our passion for British wine making.”

Hencote is already home to 'The Grange', a beautifully resorted Georgian farmhouse that can accommodate up to 12 guests. Featuring seven en-suite bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen and dining room and a cedar wood hot tub outside, The Grange is a luxurious self-catering home-from-home fitted with comfortable and stylish furnishings, ideal for short breaks in Shropshire.

Though tucked away in the rural Shropshire hills, Hencote is less than a ten-minute drive from Shrewsbury town centre, a charming town featuring medieval architecture and famed as the birth place of Charles Darwin.  Additional destination highlights include the fascinating Attingham Park, the third most popular National Trust landmark property in the country, numerous heritage buildings, and the vast countryside that surrounds the town; ideal for walking, cycling or even a scenic drive before returning to the serenity of the estate.

A family-run estate, Hencote is driven by a passion for providing an inherent sense of place for guests, diners and wine enthusiasts alike. Combining English wine production and the serenity of the Shropshire countryside, Hencote offers a real escape from busy daily life.
