Opera Australia is thrilled to announce tickets are now on sale for the 2018 Sydney New Year's Eve celebrations - a truly unforgettable night full of glitz, glamour and excitement situated right at the centre of all the action, at Australia's most famous building, the Sydney Opera House.
The Sydney New Year's Eve celebrations are world famous, with tourists flocking from all corners of the globe to tick the experience off their bucket list. And Opera Australia elevates that once in a lifetime experience to a whole new level when it takes over the Sydney Opera House, filling both the Joan Sutherland Theatre and the Concert Hall with two sensational operatic performances.
Last year more than half the audience was from overseas, with guests from 25 different countries attending the NYE performances. Most visitors came from the USA, UK, Germany and Canada, but there were also an impressive number from across Asia, South America and Europe.
“Where else in the world would you rather be?” asks Opera Australia's Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini.
“It really doesn't get any better than this on NYE in Sydney, there's nowhere closer to the action than the Sydney Opera House. This is a great opportunity to be experiencing the best that Sydney and Australia has to offer, with a wonderful night of entertainment on the stage and the spectacular fireworks show over the water.”
Guests can select from two performances – a Gala concert featuring popular arias by Verdi, Puccini and Rossini, or one of the world's most loved operas, Puccini's La Bohème – and then combine a range of dining and party options to suit their budget.
Guests could start the night with an exclusive pre-performance gala dinner in one of the vast Northern Foyers, featuring floor to ceiling windows overlooking spectacular Sydney Harbour. Featuring a decadent three-course dinner matched with premium wines and beverages, this is an unforgettable way to kick off the celebrations.
Then it's off to the performance. Guests choose either a gala concert of opera's greatest hits sung by some of Australia's finest singers in the magnificent Concert Hall or the beloved La Bohème in the Joan Sutherland Theatre.
Interval is programmed perfectly to catch the 9:00pm fireworks, and then, after the last note has been sung, the Midnight Party swings into action in the Northern Foyers of both the Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre, prime vantage points for one of the best fireworks displays in the world. With canapés, drinks, dancing and live entertainment, this is an unforgettable New Year's Eve celebration in one of the world's most iconic and glamourous locations.
