The Singapore Polo Club hosts yet another exciting event, the Prudential Pro-Am Challenge, which will run from the 24thto the 29th of April. Three teams, BMW Blue, Prudential Red and Prudential White, will battle it out for the coveted title as champions of the match.
Professional Polo player and Instructor at SPC, Sattar Khan, will be leading the Red Prudential Team as Captain, and has represented Singapore at two FIP World Cup Polo Tournaments with an incredible 4-goal handicap. Team members include Isabelle Larenaudie, who was part of the winning team at the BMW Women's International 2017, together with SEA Games 2007 Silver Medallist Ang Ban Tong, 27-year veteran Kevin Wilkinson, and Greg Parkhurst, who has several successful tournaments under his name.
Professional Polo Player Carlos Pando will be at the helm of the Blue BMW Team. With over 20 years of experience and a 5-goal handicap, the highest in the tournament, Pando has had immense success winning every tournament of high goal and Malaysian league. Joining the BMW Team this year is Marc Hogberg with a 2-goal handicap, Valerie Boffy, who made her debut at SPC in 2013, and Dutch player, Marie Hesselman from The Netherlands. Two newbies join the team, both with a beginner's handicap of -2, Australian player Gavin Kidd, who was first introduced to the world of Polo in 2008, another Australian Richard Bailey, who has been playing Polo seriously since 2015.
Captaining the White Prudential Team is Waqas Khan, with a commendable 3-goal handicap. Winner of the under 14 Potrillos polo tournament in Argentina, he will be joined by longstanding polo player, also with a 3-goal handicap, and Captain of the Hong Kong polo team since 2014, Patrick Furlong, who also played against Prince Harry at the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup. Other team members include in-house Polo Instructor Sanaullah Khan who holds a 2-goal handicap, BritishAnna Lowndes and French Olivier Duguet, both with a 0-goal handicap,and relative newbies, Marie Godenir Belgique and Johanna Monange French, each with a strong passion for the Sport of Kings. Marie Godenir started her career at SPC and earned her first handicap in 2016 while Johanna Monange completes the line-up.
Tournament Format
Preliminary rounds will be conducted in four chukka round-robin matches. Points scored for each match will be two for a win and one for a draw. The two teams with the highest order of merit at the end of the preliminary round will play a four chukka finals match to determine the winner. The tournament will be played under H.P.A / SPC rules 2017 with the 2018 amendments.
Additionally, the Prudential Youth Selection will take place on 28thand 29thApril 2018. Players will parade out showing their riding and Stick & Ball skills prior the tournament matches on both days wearing Prudential Blue colours.
