Whether it's a new patio or a decorative feature wall that's on the agenda, with National Gardening Week (30th April – 6th May) fast approaching, there is no better time than now to make a start at creating your dream garden.
If you're looking to add the right finishing touches to your outdoor space, paving is a great way to add character, whilst walling and edging are ideal for creating separate zones.
Paul Wagstaff, Head of Product Management at Bradstone, offers his top tips on designing the perfect garden:
- Keep your objectives in mind – this will help you to stay on track throughout the process and to keep a tighter rein on your budget.
- Consider the patio positioning and size – think about where the sun is at during different times in the day in your garden and whether there's any view you want to enjoy.
- Suit your style - choose something that works for you and your home. Contemporary paving will probably suit modern homes better than period properties – which will favour traditional styles.
- Plan it out first – even if you just put together a basic drawing of your garden, it will help with your creation. Plus, it will allow you to consider access around your property, trees and drainage.
- Choosing materials – get to know the advantages of different materials, as each one will create a completely different look, whether it be concrete, natural stone or porcelain.
