‘TAKE A GREEN DAY OUT ON THE TWEED’
The Commonwealth Games have all eyes firmly focused on the Gold Coast, with anticipation and excitement in overdrive.
Stadiums are buzzng, tickets are booked and the coast is alive with one of the biggest sporting events in Australia- this side of the century.
But for those who don’t have tickets or have a lay day we encourage you to explore the surrounding region, head south and within ten minutes you can be barefoot and carefree on some of the most pristine beaches and vast valleys in the world.
Built within an ancient volcano, the green caldera of ‘The Tweed’ is thriving in nature based experiences, culture and food. The rich red soil is ideal for farmers to produce and the numerous award-winning restaurants showcase local food and beverages in abundance.
Husk Distillers in the charming town of Tumbulgum, famous for their ‘Ink Gin’ (think Margot Robbie) a unique blue spirit turns a vibrant purple, from the butterfly pea botanic –just add tonic and rosemary. A showcase with Ink Gin and other fresh producers from The Tweed will be available at the NSW ‘Happy Hour’ ATE 2018.
Quirky named eateries such as Bombay Cricketers Club, Taverna Kingscliff, Mavis’ Kitchen Mt Warning, Potagers Carool and Paper Daisy at the renowned Halcyon House Cabarita, entice foodies from far and wide.
Nature is at the core of ‘The Tweed’ experience with the iconic heritage listed Wollumbin Mt Warning absorbing first sunlight. Endless mountains and national parks border the ranges of ‘The Tweed’ with exceptional vantage points along the way. Nestled in the valley is Tropical Fruit World with exotic fruits indigenous to the area.
The contemporary ‘Tweed Regional Gallery’ boasts views across the valley and is home to the Margaret Olley Art Centre and the Art Gallery Café. The valley attracts many illustrious artists showing works in arts studios located amongst quaint villages like Tyalgum and Burringbar, dotted along the way.
For a relaxing day trip head south acorss the border to ‘The Tweed’-a dreamy destination without the crowds.
