On the afternoon of Saturday 7 April, a fire broke out at Spicers Retreats Hidden Vale Retreat in Grandchester, Queensland. The fire was contained to the historical homestead and on-property restaurant – Homage - and did not cause damage to accommodation or other facilities on the grounds.
All guests and team members were evacuated in line with Spicers Retreats safety procedures and no one was injured as a result of the incident.
For the safety and comfort of guests, Spicers Hidden Vale will temporarily cease daily operation over the next fortnight, and all guests booked in at the property will be offered alternative accommodation across the Group, or a full refund for the cost of their booking.
Spicers Retreats Managing Director David Assef said the Group was committed to rebuilding the homestead and restaurant, whilst ensuring guests continue to experience the high level of service and luxury that they have come to expect at Spicers Hidden Vale.
“The rebuild of damaged amenities will now be our priority, however while this is in progress, we are fortunate that we have a range of facilities onsite to cater for future guests, including weddings scheduled to occur in the coming fortnight,” Mr. Assef said.
“A huge thank you must go out to the community and to local and state emergency services for their efforts and support – we are extremely grateful for your efforts” he said.
Spicers Retreats Founder Jude Turner said her immediate focus is on ensuring guests booked at the property over the coming weeks are looked after, as well as planning the restoration of Spicers Hidden Vale.
“We are grateful for all of the support we have received from the community over the last 48 hours and are firmly focused on getting Spicers Hidden Vale back in operation for our guests. Rest assured, we will be back!” she said.
