
Skyscanner.net uncovers insights on the route set to be the first non-stop to Australia
With the first ever non-stop London to Perth flight set to take off from London Heathrow this Sunday, Skycanner.net has delved into their flight data to uncover stats relating to flights to Australia, in particular the London to Perth route. Here's what they uncovered
- The number of travellers flying from UK to Australia increased by 6% YoY, from London to Australia that increase was 7%¹
- When looking at the top five most popular Aussie Cities to visit from the UK, Perth saw the largest % increase in traffic, growing 13% (YoY)²
- The London Heathrow to Perth route grew 35% in 2017 (YoY)³
- The current return price for the inaugural direct flight from London Heathrow to Perth on 25th March (returning one week later) is £1,135 4
- The cheapest direct return flight for 2018 from London Heathrow to Perth is currently £761
- The average flight price from London Heathrow to Perth was £813.12 in 2017, which was a drop of 1% YoY 6
- Average flight price of Qantas flight from London Heathrow to Perth in 2017 was £877.06 7
Hayley Shearer, Growth Manager at Skyscanner commented: “Looking through our flight data from the millions of travellers who use our site, we can see that routes to Perth have increased in popularity over the last year, with the London Heathrow to Perth route already seeing a staggering 35% increase in traffic. It might surprise some travellers that this non-stop route is more affordable than they think. Prices start from just £761 return if travelling in June, which is a 24% saving on the average flight price for this route in that month8. With affordable flights and saving time we would expect to see interest continue to grow over the coming months.”
